Funeral services for James Lloyd Dawson, 63, retired farmer of Davidson Road, Greenville, Rt. 7, will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be Alvin Bridwell, Joe Snyder, Dave Dawson, Boyd Burns, J. D. Park, and Willie Weaver.
        The honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of Reedy River Church and Dr. T. E. Coleman and Robert T. Ashmore.
        Mr. Dawson died at his home Friday.
        The body is at Stillwell Mortuary. It will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.


 
Mrs. Maude Dawson
     
 Maude Lipscombe Dawson, 89, of Route 9, Davidson Road, died Monday.
        She was a homemaker and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
        Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Garrett, Helen Hester and Hazel Hester, all of Greenville; a sister, Louis Melton of Bremo Bluff, Va., and a brother, James Edgar Lipscombe of Greenville.
        Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
        The family is at the home or Hazel Hester, Route 9, Dawson Road, Greenville.
        In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reedy River Baptist Church, Travelers Rest.

Alfred Day Jr.
        Alfred Vaughan Day Jr., 54, of 22 Highland Condo, Pine Creek Court Extension, husband of Mildred Barrett Day, died Wednesday in Phoenix, Az. He was born Jan. 8, 1930 in Boston, Mass. A son of the late Alfred V. and Gladys Bouvier Day. He was employed with National Tool. He was a graduate and had a degree in engineering from MIT and Yale University. He was of the Episcopal Faith.
        Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Barbara Ann Vinicombe of Tampa, Fla.
        Graveside services will be conducted at noon Saturday from Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jessie Stewart officiating. The body is at the Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest. The family is at the home at 22 Highlands Condos, Pine Creek Court Ext., Greenville, S.C. The Howze Mortuary Funeral Directors, Travelers Rest.

Mrs. Mildred B. Day
         Mildred Barrett Day, 70, of 22 Highland Condominiums, died Dec. 1, 1995, at St. Francis Hospital.
         She was a secretary with Anderson Clayton Cotton Co. before she retired and was a member of Central Baptist Church.
         Surviving are two sisters, Sylvia Robertson of Travelers Rest and Marilyn Cassell of Cleveland; and a brother, Robert C. Barrett of Mauldin.
         Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
         The family members are at their respective homes. _ The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest.

Ogden John Deal
          Ogden John Deal, 85, of 7 S. Parker Road, died Oct. 18, 1994, at his home.
        He was born on May 17, 1909 in Taylorsville, NC, the son of the late Jacob and Ona Belle Queen Deal.
        He was a retired self-employed building contractor and mortgage loan broker. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Taylorsville, N.C.
        Surviving are his wife, Mary Rogers Deal; two sons, Charles Evans Deal of Gaffney and John Edwin Deal of Greenville; and a sister, Cecil Deal of Greenville; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
        He was predeceased by a son, Ogden Deal, Jr., who died in 1988.
        Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        The family is at the residence.

Brownie Deanovich
   
  
  Bernard Brownie Deanovich, 66, of 165 Faris Circle, died Friday.
        He was retired from the dry-cleaning business. He was employed by the federal Postal Service, Branwood Station in West Greenville.
        He was of the Greek Orthodox faith and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
        Surviving are his wife, Lois Hawkins Deanovich of the home; a daughter, Denise Deanovich of Washington, D.C.; a son, David Deanovich of the home; four sisters, Eva Leposke and Natalie Marschner, both of Detroit, Milka Krivokucha of Sarasota, Fla., and Mary Zoladz of California; three brothers, George Deanovich and Carl Deanovich, both of Detroit, and Milan Deanovich of Escondido, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
        Services: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the mortuary.

B(enjamin). G(ilford). Dearman
         B(enjamim).G(ilford). Dearman, 69, retired police officer, died Sunday morning at his home, 211 Lois street, following a long period of failing health.
         Mr. Dearman was born January 17, 1875, in Bates township, near Travelers Rest, his parents having been the late Robert R. and Malissa Marshbanks Dearman.
         As a young man he located in Greenville and had continued his residence here for a period of 50 years, most of which time was spent in the Camperdown community. In 1915 he became associated with the Greenville police department and continued to serve in that capacity for 23 years, having been retired on June 1, 1938, at which time he was a sergeant. He was widely know throughout this section.
         Mr. Dearman was a member of the Second Baptist church and always took an interest in the affairs of the church.
         He was twice married, first to Miss Ella Wooten, who died nine years ago. Of this union, the following children survive: Two daughters, Mrs. J.N. Craig and Mrs. C.W. Dowell; three sons, B.T,   H(arry). G. and W.P. Dearman, and 15 grandchildren.
         His second wife, Mrs. Ponie Lewallen Dearman, survived him with three step-daughters: Mrs. W.D. Martin, Mrs. Willis Bell and Mrs. Lester Gailey, and one step-son, Howard Lewallen.
         Eight sisters and one brother, Mrs. P.B. Batson, Mrs. Delia A. Stepp, Mrs. J. Allen Burns, Mrs. J.C. Chiles, Mrs. Margaret Burns, Miss Polly Dearman, Mrs. J.E. Wilson, Mrs. Alice Owens and J.T. Dearman.
          Funeral services will be held at the Second Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. James Bruce, Rev. B.S.H. Harris and Dr. J. Dean Crain. Interment will be in Reedy River Baptist church cemetery on the family plot.
          The following members of the Greenville Police department will serve as active pallbearers: Lt. H.L. Springfield, H.N. Freeman, J.D. McKinney, O.E. Ridgeway, C.M. Harbin and C.W. Blakely. They will meet at the home at 4:10 o'clock.
          Composing the honorary escort will be the members of city county and police commissioners, Chief J.H. Jennings, retired Chief J.E. Smith, all members of Greenville police department, both active and retired, the board of deacons and T.E.L. Class of the church and the following: Dr. C.C. Ariail, Dr. R. Bruce, Sidney Bruce, B.F. Huff, W.P. Castleberry, A.B. Cothran, L.S. Cook, Grady Penland, J.W. McDowell, W.M. Long, J.R. Stout, Cecil Anderson, J.M. Grogan, J. Waters Huff, Emory Trent, N.R. Lowe, Blythe Jones, I.P. Kellett, Frank Christopher, Frank Estes, Jack Lynch and C.E. Seawright. They will meet at the church at 4:20 o'clock.

Mrs. Ella Wooten Dearman
      Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Wooten Dearman, wife of B. Gilford Dearman, member of the city police department, will be held from Riverside Baptist Church this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The Rev. B.S.H. Harris will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. P.T. Cunningham. Interment will be in Reedy River Baptist church cemetery.
      The following members of the city police department will serve as pallbearers: J.E. Smith, L.W. Hammond, H.L. Curry, J.A. Watkins, R.C. Evans and O.T. Lowe.
      Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. C.C. Arial, J.H. Huff, Dr. R.E. Houston, Dr. Lee Carpenter, Gabe Busbee, W.N. Hatcher, Sam Cooper, J.A. McDavis and W.H. Long.
      Mrs. Dearman‘s death occurred at the residence, 30 Cleveland street, Tuesday afternoon following two weeks of serious illness.
      She was born and raised in Highland township of this county and was a daughter of the late William and Salena Rochester Wooten. In her childhood she came to Greenville and had for the last 49 years lived here. Mrs. Dearman was a member of Riverside Baptist church.
      In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.N. Craig of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. T.W. McDowell, Greenville; three sons, R.T. W.P. and H(arry). G. Dearman, all of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Keller, Greenville and Mrs. G.P. Fowler, Anderson, and two brothers, Joe Wooten and T.W. Wooten of Greenville. Ten grandchildren also survive.
      The body is at the residence pending the hour of service.

Hovey Dearman
       Hovey Dearman, 19, passed away at his home, 38 Cleveland street, at his home yesterday after a short illness. He had lived in Greenville all of his life and has numerous friends here who will be grieved to hear of his death. Young Mr. Dearman is the son of B.G. Dearman, who is connected with the City Police department.
        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Viola Dearman; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Dearman, of this city; and the following sisters and brothers : Mrs. J.N. Craig of Greensboro, N.C.; Miss Alia Dearman, R.T, Dearman, William Dearman and Harry Dearman, all of this city.
        Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Reedy River Baptist church. Rev. M.M. Barnett will conduct the services and will be assisted by Rev. B.S. H. Harris. Interment will be made in Reedy River church cemetery.
        The following will serve as pallbearers: Beattie Wilson, Johnnie Wilson, Ward Knight, James Green, Alvin Hall and Willie Cureton.

Mrs. Malissa M. Dearman
   
   Mrs. Malissa Marchbanks Dearman, 69, died at a local hospital Tuesday night at 9 o'clock after an illness of three weeks.
       Mrs. Dearman was a native of Greenville county and had been a resident of Greenville for 35 years. She was the widow of the late R.R. Dearman. She was a devoted member of the Riverside Baptist church.
       Mrs. Dearman is the mother of Officer B.G. Dearman, of the city police force, who lives on Cleveland street.
       Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. R.D. Steppe, Mrs. J.A. Burns, Mrs. J.B. Burns, Mrs. J.C. Chiles, Mrs. J.E. Wilson, Mrs. S.D. Owens and Miss Polly Dearman, all of Greenville, and Mrs. B.P. Batson, Travelers Rest; and two sons, B.G. Dearman and J.T. Dearman, City; one sister, Mrs. Lou McAllister, Travelers Rest, besides 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from the Riverside Baptist church. The services will be conducted by Rev. B.S.H. Harris and Rev. A.H. Bouknight. The interment will be in Reedy River church cemetery.
      Six grandsons of the deceased will be pallbearers.

Herley (Red) Dix
        Herley Edward (Red) Dix, 55, died Thursday after an unexpected illness.
        Mr. Dix was born at Concord, N.C., Oct. 24, 1896, a son of the late H.J. and Mary (Lattker) Dix. He moved to Greenville 30 year ago, and in addition to well work, did outside work at the Union Bleachery, where the family lives, at 5 Arrington Avenue.
        Mr. Dix attended the Methodist Church, was a member of Cedar Camp 3, Woodmen of the World.
        His wife, Mrs. Pearl Taylor Dix, survived with three sons, H.J. Dix, Douglas Dix and Herley Edward Dix Jr.; five daughters, Mrs. James Aiken, Mrs. Kenneth Robertson, Mrs. Sherwood Green and Miss Peggy Dix, all of this city, and Mrs. Dan Ellison of Easley; one sister, Mrs. Ollie D. Dannielly, Lynchburg, Va., and 10 grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Raymond L. Phillips and the Rev. J.W. Smith Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mackey Mortuary. Interment will be in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be G.L. Revis, Charlie Evington, Grady Trammell, E.L. Bridwell, Kay Robertson and Charlie Ballenger. They will meet at the mortuary at 10:50 a.m.
        The escort of honor, also meeting at the mortuary at 10:50 will be Dewey Humphreys, G.W. Batson, John W. Arrington Jr., Lester B. Poole, Marvin Robertson, W.M. Bramlett, W.S. Green, Adger Bishop, John Nelson, Craft Belcher, C.M. Turner and J.L. Aiken.
        The body is at the mortuary.

Mrs. Mary Catherine Rodgers Burns Dobson
      Mrs. Mary Catherine Rodgers Dobson, 69, of Rt. 7, Parker Road, wife of James Arthur Dobson, died yesterday at 2:45 p.m. at a local hospital after several years of declining health.
        Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Maude Hollingsworth Rodgers. She had spent all of her life here.
        For a number of years she was associated with J.P. Stevens Company at the Slater and Dunean Mills.
        She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, the TEL class of the Sunday school and Circle 6 of the Women's Missionary Union.
        She was first married to Jesse L. Burns, who died here Sept. 15, 1952.
        Surviving are her husband, James Arthur Dobson of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Aud. M. Ledford (Alma), and Mrs. Alvin Lanning (Mabel) of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, H. Everett Rodgers of Asheville; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Pauline Bearden of Pickens, Mrs. Annie Ruth Martin of Liberty and Mrs. Carolina Shirley of Clemson; a stepson, James A. Dobson Jr. of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. Seth P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        The family will receive friends at The Mackey Mortuary today from 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be placed in the church Thursday at 1 p.m.

J. Gary Drummond
        J. Gary Drummond, well known citizen and merchant of the Buncombe Road near Travelers Rest, died suddenly Tuesday night at 11:30 o'clock. He had been in failing health for several months.
       Mr. Drummond was a life-long resident of the upper part of this county. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Drummond. He was born Nov. 26, 1881.
       Mr. Drummond was a public-spirited citizen and interested in all affairs of his community. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and also a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Travelers Rest.
       Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janie Huffling Drummond, and two brothers, John Drummond and Clarence Drummond.
       Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Jones Mortuary at an hour to be announced later.
       Pending the hour of the service the body will remain at the Jones Mortuary.
       Members of the family will be at the home of S.W. Huffling, 24 Seyle Street, Dunean.

Mrs. Lena Drummond
          Mrs. Lena Drummond, 86, resident of Monaghan mill, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.W. Batson of 30 Haynsworth street, yesterday morning at 9 o'clock following a two weeks illness.
        Mrs. Drummond was formerly of Travelers Rest, having moved to this city about ten years ago, and since that time she has made numerous friends. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist church.
        Surviving her are three daughters: Mrs. E.W. Batson, Mrs. W.D. Batson and Mrs. John Vermillion, all of this city; and four sons, J.G. and C.E. Drummond, of Travelers Rest; J.P. Drummond of this city and J.F. Drummond of Newton, N.C.
        Funeral services will be held this afternoon at o'clock from Reedy River Baptist church; Rev. F.K. Poole officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sallie Drummond
  
  
Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Drummond, wife of J.G. Drummond and widely known resident of the Reedy River section of Greenville County, will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Reedy River Baptist church. The services will be conducted by Dr. Frank K. Pool and the Rev. J. Sam Shaw and interment will be in the church cemetery.
       Nephews of Mrs. Drummond will serve as active pallbearers.
       The members of the Mothers' Sunday school class are asked to meet at the church at 2:50 o'clock to compose the honorary escort.
       The death of Mrs. Drummond occurred at 9:27 o'clock Wednesday night at her home. She had been in declining health for several months, but had been seriously ill only one week. The news of her death will cause widespread sorrow among her many friends.
       Mrs. Drummond was born and reared in Henderson county, N. C., a daughter of the late Ambrose and Martha Jones Capps. For the past 40 years she had made her home in Greenville county and for the past 22 years had lived in the Reedy River section.
       She was a devoted member of Reedy River Baptist church and always took an active part in the work of the church.
       In addition to her husband she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dollie Capps of East Flat Rock, N. C., and Mrs. Salome Ficker of Hendersonville, N. C.
       The body will be carried to the church at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon to lie in state until the hour of the service.
       Further announcements will be made later by R. D. Jones and Sons, morticians.

 
James Ruthel Duncan
     
James Ruthel Duncan, 87, of 103 Viewmont Drive, died Saturday at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
       He retired from L.B. Clardy Co. after 41 years as a buyer and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
       Surviving are a son, Larry C. Duncan of Taylors; a sister, Elizabeth Bridwell of Greenville; four grandchildren, Jennifer Katzenmaier, Kevin Duncan, Erin Ball and Amy Puckett; and four great-grandchildren, Corey Ball, Haley Ball, Chloe Ball and Lauren Puckett. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha Corn Duncan; and a son, James M. Duncan.
       Services: 3:30 p.m. today at Reedy River Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sethie Hester, Tim Lee and Dr. Elmer Piper officiating.    Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Visitation: 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at the church. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel.

Mrs. Martha Corn Duncan
    
Martha Corn Duncan, 79, of 103 Viewmont Drive, died Feb. 14, 1997, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness.
      She retired from Union Bleachery after 25 years of service.
      She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
      Surviving are her husband, James Ruthel Duncan; a son, Larry C. Duncan of Taylors; a sister, Doris C. Carroll of Greenville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
      Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
      Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Mrs. Mary Duncan
        Mrs. Mary Rebecca Capell Duncan, wife of the late Joseph Warren Duncan of 213 East Parker Road, died at the home at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon following an illness of six months.
        Mrs. Duncan was a daughter of the late William and Polly Duncan Capell. She was born November 8, 1869 and was a lifelong resident of Greenville. She had been a member of Monaghan Baptist Church for many years and had lived in the Monaghan community for 48 years.
        Surviving are two daughters, Miss Leila Duncan and Mrs. W.F. Phillips, both of this city; one son, Dr. M.M. Duncan, of Ware Shoals; two sisters, Mrs. Addie Cass of Piedmont and Mrs. Nora Foster of Laurens, one brother, Lafayette Capell of Knoxville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
        Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from Monaghan Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Walter E. Boone and Rev. S.W. Jolly. Interment will be in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be Claude Mauldin, Clyde Hester, Wayne Smith, Earl Phillips, Wallace Phillips and Winifred Gravely.
        Completing the escort of honor will be members of the board of deacons of Monaghan Baptist Church.

Miss Sara E. Duncan
      Miss Sara E. Duncan, who resided at No. 13 Donaldson street, Monaghan Mill, died at her home Thursday night at a late hour after a lingering illness.
      Miss Duncan was 63 years of age and was born and reared near Travelers Rest.
      Her only living survivors are a niece, Mrs. Mary R. Duncan; two great nieces, Miss Lula Duncan and Mrs. Ollie Phillips, and one great nephew, Marshall Duncan, all of Greenville.
      Funeral services will be held from the Monaghan Mill Baptist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.M. Jolly.
      Interment will be in Reedy River cemetery.
