Mildred James Hester Garren
      Mildred James Hester Garren, 92, of 8 Fairway Dr., Greenville, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
      Born in Edgefield County on June 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Alice Freeman James.
      Prior to her retirement, she was an inspector for Stone Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
      Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Sizemore Campbell of Rock Hill, Norma McKinney Brewton and husband Maurice, Betty Winegard and Linda Ray and husband Jim, all of Greenville; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Boone of Laurens; and many nieces and nephews.
      Mrs. Garren was twice married and preceded in death by her first husband, Fred James Hester, and her second husband, Ed Garren; son, Stephen Perry Hester; grandson, Rocky McKinney; step-son, Buddy Garren; three sisters; and four brothers.
      The family wishes to thank all of the employees at Oakmont Nursing Home for the care provided to Mrs. Garren over the past years. In addition, the family would like to thank the people from Hampton Park Baptist Church for the church services that were offered each week, which Mrs. Garren was able to enjoy.
      The Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 1st at 1:30 pm at Reedy River Baptist Church, 871 N. Hwy. 25 Bypass, Greenville, SC 29617, with visitation prior from 12 Noon until 1:15 pm. There will be a private family burial.

Daisy Garrison
        Mrs. Daisy Robertson Garrison, wife of B.L. Garrison, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock at a local hospital. She had been ill for several months. However, her condition only became serious four days ago.
        Mrs. Garrison resided with her family on the old Buncombe Road near the Union Bleachery and had spent most of her life in that section, where she was well-known. She was born and reared in the upper part of Greenville county and was a daughter of F.S. Robertson and the late Molly Taylor Robertson.
         In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Earl Garrison, Greenville; her father, F.S. Robertson, Greenville; four sisters, Mrs. R.A. Adkins and Mrs. Paul Culbertson, near Union Bleachery, Mrs. J.N. Hester, Travelers Rest; Mrs. R.C. Garrison, Sans Souci; six brothers, M.K. Robertson, M.E. Robertson, D.S. Robertson, George Robertson and W.M. Robertson, all near Union Bleachery and Ernest Robertson, Paris Mountain road.
         Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will be announced later by Thomas McAfee, funeral directors.

M(arzie). B. Garrison
     
Funeral services for M(arzie) .B. Garrison, 41, who died suddenly Saturday afternoon at the home on the Buncombe road, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Reedy River church, Rev. F. K. Poole officiating. The interment will be made in the Reedy River church cemetery.
       The following will serve as pallbearers: Active, Hex Moody, B. T. Bolt, C. J.. Hill, F. A. Noblet, R. A. Noblet, and Frank Caldwell. Honorary: Dr. Gaston, Fred Moody, Arthur Ewbank, M. C. Green, W. N. Miller, and A. D. Fry.
       Mr. Garrison had lived in Greenville county all of his life and, until three years ago, had lived on Hampton avenue extension. He had been connected with the P. & N. shops for the past 14 years as inspector of locomotives, and was popular among his associates.
       He was a member of Junior Order American Mechanics, Bald Rock Council No. 47, holding an office in that council.
       Besides his wife, Mrs. Maggie Eaton Garrison, he is survived by his father, N. W. Garrison, Greenville county; five sisters, Mrs. J. A. Smith, Mrs. E. W. Morris, Miss Harriet Garrison, Miss Beatrice Garrison, and Miss Ruth Garrison; five brothers, B. L., R. C., Claud, Luther and Jerry Garrison, all of Greenville.
 
N(emiah). W. Garrison
       
N(emiah). W.  Garrison, 80, died at his home at 110 East Washington road Monday night at 10 o'clock following an illness of three days.
        He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Garrison and the following sons and daughters: Ben, Robert, Claude, Luther, Jerry, Miss Ruth Garrison, Mrs. J.A. Smith, Mrs. E.W. Morris, Mrs. Elbert Monroe and Mrs. Harriett S. Cureton.
        Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from Reedy River Baptist church.
        The service will be conducted by the Rev. Charlie Gosnell, the Rev. Paul Kinnett and the Rev. J. Harold Smith. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
        The following will serve as active pallbearers: Fred, Frank, William, Thurmond, Ford and Earl Garrison.
        Composing the escort of honor will be James Farris, Bob Mace, Jerry Cleveland, George Richardson, Bill Morgan, L.R. McCauley, H.C. Harrison and Grady Foster.
        Pending the hour of the service the body is at the home.

J. Maurice George
    
  
Julian Maurice George, 66, of 221 Viewmont Drive, died suddenly March 17, 1996, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
        He was a NASCAR driver at Greenville-Pickens Speedway for many years and was known as "Maurice the Mad Man." In 1994, he won the old-timers race at the speedway.
        He was an employee of 3M Corp. and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
        Surviving are his wife, Ann Bagwell George; a daughter, Haley Ann George of the home; two sons, Julian M. "Johnny" George Jr. of Coral Gables, Fla., and Michael T. George of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Selina G.) Moore and Mrs. Roy (Cecelia G.) Campbell, both of Greenville; and four grandchildren.
        Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial will be in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Julian M. ``Johnny'' George, Jr.
      
CORAL GABLES, Fla. _ Julian Maurice ``Johnny'' George Jr., 47, of 640 Valencia Ave. and formerly of Greenville, died May 15, 1998 following a brief illness.
         Born in Greenville, he was a son of Lou Tate George and the late Julian Maurice George, Sr. He attended Furman University and was associated with Bill Ussery Mercedes, Coral Gables. Member: Reedy River Baptist Church, 871 N. Highway 25 By-Pass.
         Surviving in addition to his mother and his wife, Faith McGee George of Coral Gables; daughters, Ashley George and Kelly George, both of Greenville, and a brother, Michael Tate George of Greenville.
         Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial: Church cemetery.
         Visitation: 4:00-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
         Family: Home of aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Campbell, 213 Viewmont Dr., Greenville.

Mrs. Elvira Goodlett
           Mrs. Elvira Goodlett, wife of M.C. Goodlett deceased, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Sunie Marchbanks at the age of 73 years, she has been an invalid for several years suffering from a stroke of paralysis. The peaceful end came Thursday morning the 14th, at 9 o'clock. Only one sister survived her, Mrs. Mary A. Tate. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. B.S.H. Harris Friday morning at 10 clock at the home of Mrs. Marchbanks at the McGee manufacturing company village.
            Interment will be at Reedy River Baptist Church.

Berta Lee Traynham Greene
        Mrs. Berta Lee Traynham Greene, 69, known as ``Miss Bert,'' wife of Joe B. Greene of White Horse Rd. near Travelers Rest, died at her home at 5:10 p.m. Thursday after a sudden illness and one year of declining health.
         A native of Dacusville and a daughter of the late W.M. and Dora (Hester) Traynham, she had lived in Travelers Rest section for 48 years.
         She assisted her husband in the operation of Greene's Store near the home and had she lived until Nov. 27 they would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.
         She was a member of Travelers Rest Methodist Church.
         Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Wayne A Evins and a son, Billy Joe Greene of Travelers Rest; three sisters, Mrs. Viola Cox and Mrs. Addie Culbertson of Greenville and Mrs. Cora Boone; three brothers, Paul Traynham of Dacusville, J.C. Traynham of Wichita Falls, Tex., and Frank Traynham of Easley, and three grandchildren.
         Funeral arrangements will be announced by The Mackey Mortuary.

Ethel Greene
       
Elizabeth Stewart Greene, 79, of Greendale Farms, White Horse Road, wife of Walter Edward Greene, died Monday.
      Born in Pickens County, she was a retired school teacher for Greenville County schools, and at the time of retirement was a teacher at Armstrong Elementary School, a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, a teacher of the Mother's Bible Class, and former director of the Women's Mission Union. She was a past grand matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
      Surviving, also are a daughter, Joanne Greene Turner of Greenville; a son, Jackson E. Greene of Greenville; sisters, Elva S. Trueblood of Gaffney, Eula S. Newton of Liberty, Essie S. Young of. Easley, Lois S. Seaborn of Greenville, Mrs. Willis S. Cunningham and Frances S. Wylie of Pickens; brothers, Fred G. Stewart of Pickens and Charles H. Stewart of Anderson; and three grandchildren.
      Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reedy River Baptist Church; burial in the church cemetery.
      The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Mackey Mortuary.
      The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Reedy River Baptist Church.

Jackson Edward Greene, Jr.
      Jackson Edward Greene, Jr., 52, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
      Born in Greenville County, SC, he was the son of the late Jackson E. and Joyce Oglesby Greene, Sr.
      Mr. Greene was a farmer and an active leader and member of Reedy River Baptist Church. Jackson's missions in life were to bring the lost to Christ, to farm expertly, and to relish family and friends. His larger than life outlook touched many and will be missed sorely.
      He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rebecca Tankersley Greene; son: Andrew (Jasmine) Greene; daughters: Katie (Edward) Greenwood and Rachel (Chris) Bass; brother: Walter A. (Jenifer) Greene; granddaughter: Charlotte Elise Greenwood; aunt: Joanne (Charles) Turner; and niece Ella Greene.
      The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary.
      Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
      The family will be at the home.

Joseph B. Greene
       Joseph Benjamin Greene, 85, of Route 4, White Horse Road, Travelers Rest, died Wednesday.
       Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Luther Edward and Josephine Hawkins Greene, he owned and operated J.B. Greene Grocery Store and was a retired farmer, a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, served on the Farmer's Home Administration Board and was a member of the Woodmen of The World and a former school trustee.
       Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ruth G. Evins of Travelers Rest; a son, Billy Joe Greene of Travelers Rest; a sister, Mrs. Kate G. Turner of Taylors; and a brother, Walter E. Greene of Greenville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
       Services will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
       The body is at The Mackey Mortuary where the family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
       The family is at the home of the son, Billy Joe Greene, Rt. 4, White Horse Road, Travelers Rest.

Josephine Hawkins Greene
    
Mrs. Josephine Hawkins Greene, 75, widow of the late L. E. Greene died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Farr on the Farr's Bridge road after an illness of 12 days.
      Mrs. Greene lived all of her life in Greenville County. She was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church.
      Mrs. Greene is survived by three sons, R. L., J. B. and W. E. Greene, all of Greenville county, and by the following daughters: Mrs. H. J. Ponder, of Greer; Mrs. W. Henry Farr, of Greenville county; Mrs. B. F. McDaniel, Mrs. Sue E. Ashmore, Mrs. J. H. McDaniel, Mrs. E. D. Chiles and Mrs. S. T. Turner, all of Greenville county. Nineteen grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: W. C. Hawkins, of Greenville county; Mrs. M. A. Talley, Mrs. Hattie K. League, Mrs. Alice S. Ashmore and Mrs. Ella Thackston, all of Greenville county.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by Frank K. Pool, the Rev. C. W. Allen and the Rev. Percy Hughes.
      Active pallbearers: Hawkins Ashmore, Barney Talley, Ford Thackston, Ansel Hawkins, Edgar League and Herman Hawkins.
      Honorary pallbearers: A. L. Eubanks, Dr. S. R. Gaston. Dr. Hugh Smith, Dr. J. W. McLain, W. K. Thackston, R. G. Batson, T. M. Hunt, J. R. Anderson, W. W. Benson, T. T. Farr and F. M. E. Martin.
      The interment will be made in the church cemetery.

Joyce Greene
     Joyce O. Greene, 54, of Route 3, Greendale Farms, died at natural causes Jan. 26, 1987 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
      She was a retired Greenville County school teacher and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
      Surviving are her husband, Jackson E. Greene of the home; two sons, Jackson E. Greene Jr. of Travelers Rest and Walter A. Greene of Greenville; and a sister, Helen Rock of Seminole, Fla.
      Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
      Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest.
      Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.

Lena Coleman Greene
       
 Mrs. Lena Coleman Greene, 86, widow of Robert L. Greene, died at a local nursing home yesterday at 11 a.m. following 10 years of declining health.
       She was a native of Greenville County and a daughter of the late Marcus M. and Martha (Hunt) Coleman, of prominent families in the Travelers Rest section.
       Prior to Mr. Greene's death, the family lived on the White Horse Road.
       Mrs. Greene was a member of Dacusville Methodist Church.
       Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. S.L. Burns of Travelers Rest, Mrs. Ernest L. Jones of Pelham Road, Mrs. W.H. Pace of Augusta Road and Mrs. R.W. Epting of Greenville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
       Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary by Rev. Rex Martin and Rev. S.P. Hester, Burial will be in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be G. Alvin Robinson, Jesse G. Mullinax, Virgil A. Bradford, Wayne A. Evins, Jim Brockman and Warren Hunt.
       The body is at the mortuary.
       The family is at the home of Mrs. Epting, 600 E. Lee Road.

Luther Edward Green
    
Luther Edward Green, well known resident of Paris Mountain township, died suddenly yesterday morning at his home on the White Horse road. Mr. Green was 73 years of age and during his entire life lived in Greenville, where he engaged successfully in farming.
      Mr. Green was a member of Reedy River church for over 50 years, and throughout his long life was regarded as a man of sterling character and a good citizen and neighbor.
      Mrs. Green and the following children survive, together with a large family connection: Mrs. H. J. Ponder, of Greer, Mrs. B. F. McDaniel, Mrs. V. P. Ashmore, Mrs. J. H. McDaniel, Mrs. W. H. Farr, Mrs. Edward D. Chiles, and R. L., J. E. and W. E. Green, of Greenville county. and Mrs. S. T. Turner of Great Falls, S. C. A sister, Mrs. A. E. Payne, of Greenville county, also survives.
      Funeral services will be held at Reedy River church, at 12 o'clock today. Rev. H. I. Hester will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
      The following nephews of Mr. Green will be pallbearers: Dayton Hawkins, Crawford League, Paul Thackston, Barney Talley, Hawkins Ashemore, Ansel Hawkins, Joseph League and C. C. Ashemore. Honorary pallbearers will be T. W. Hunt, Dr. B. F. Goodlett, T. W. Roe, Jasper Watson, Russell Batson, Arthur Ewbanks, Tom Batson, T. D. Cooper, L. P. Batson and Dr. Chas. P. Benson.

 
Robert L. Greene
         Funeral services for Robert Luther Greene of the White Horse Rd. near Travelers Rest, were to be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Reedy River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. S.P. Hester, the Rev. Frank L. Ashmore and the Rev. John T. Frasier, with the interment to be made on the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
       Jack Greene, Billy Joe Greene, Henry McDaniel, James Coleman, B.F. McDaniel and Richard Chiles were to serve as pallbearers.
       The following were to compose the honorary escort: J.H. McDaniel, C.P. Batson, W.W. Gibson, W.A. Bolen, D.B. Hunt, J. Frank Thackston, Roy Burns, Allen League, James Stroud, Dr. T.E. Coleman, Dr. L.W. Boggs, Dr. Cecil G. White Jr., Joe Gaines and S.T. Turner Jr.
       Mr. Greene died Monday at 1:25 p.m. at a Travelers Rest hospital, resulting from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the White Horse Road February 10.
       He was born in Greenville County November 3, 1882, a son of the late Luther E. and Josephine (Hawkins) Greene, and was a well-known farmer in his active years.
       Mr. Greene was a member of the Woodmen of the World and of the Reedy River Baptist Church.
       His wife, Mrs. Lena Coleman Greene, survives him, with two brothers, J.B. Greene of Travelers Rest and W.E. Greene of this city; for sisters, Mrs. Etta G. McDaniel and Mrs. Eunice G. Farr, both of Greenville, Mrs. Sue C. Ashmore of Travelers Rest, and Mrs. Sterling T. Turner of Taylors, and a number of nieces and nephews.
       James F. Mackey & Sons, morticians, were in charge of arrangements.

Walter E. Greene
     
 
Walter Edward Greene, 81, of Rt. 3, Greendale Farms, White Horse Road, died Sunday.
        Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Luther Edward and Josephine Hawkins Greene. His wife was the late Ethel Stewart Greene.
        Mr. Greene was a farmer and an assessor for the Greenville County Tax Commission. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, a former deacon and treasurer, and served in numerous other positions in the church. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Greenville County Cattlemen's Association, was a Mason and Member at Cooper Masonic Lodge 34 at Travelers Rest.
        Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joanne Greene Turner of Greenville; a son, Jackson E. Greene, Sr. of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Kate Greene Turner of Greenville and three grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        The family will be at the home, but will receive friends at The Mackey Mortuary Monday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
        In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
