Benjamin F. Hall
         Benjamin F. Hall, 86, retired farmer, died at a Greer nursing home yesterday at 7:05 A.M., after five weeks of serious illness and a long period of declining health.
        A son of the late Benjamin F. and Caroline Smith Hall, he was born in Greenville County June 2, 1876. Most of his life was spent in the Double Springs community. Recently he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Barron, 9 Ellendale Avenue.
       His wife, Mrs. Eva Dean Hall, died April 29, 1962.
       He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class.
       Surviving also are 2 other daughters, Mrs. Norman R. Cantrell of Greenville and Mrs. Betty Jo Surrett of Bethel, Ohio; 3 sons, Charles L., Willie A., and Thomas Hall of Greenville; 2 half brothers James Hall of Greenville and John Hall of Pickens; 26 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be conducted at Reedy River Baptist Church Saturday morning at 11 A.M., by Rev. S. P. Hester and Rev. Curtis J. Waters. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be Jason Hall, Ercil Cantrell, Andrew Hall, Leroy Hall, Jerry Hall and Harold Hall.
       Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of Reedy River Baptist Church and of Double Springs Baptist Church.
       The body is at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. It will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
       The family is at the home of Mrs. Barron, but will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Dora Hall
    
Mrs. Dora Black Hall of Poinsett Highway, Rt. 7, Greenville, widow of Fred H. Hall, died at her home Friday at 4:30 p.m.
        She was a native of Greenville County, a daughter of Mrs. Mary Hall Rice and the late Henry Black. She spent most of her life in the Reedy River community and lived 11 years in Taylors. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James S. (Sarah) Staton of Rt. 3, Easley and Mrs. James Andrew (Judy) Armstrong of Rt. 7, Greenville; six sons, Fred Andrew Hall of Rt. 3, Easley, James Leroy Hall of Greenville, Buddy David Hall of Travelers Rest, Horace F. Hall of Greenville and Paul and Raymond Lee Hall of Rt. 7, Greenville; a brother, J.D. Black of Greenville; two stepsisters, Mrs. Bertie Vaughn and Mrs. Frances Southerland of Greenville; and 17 grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth P. Hester and the Rev. J.B. Marchbanks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be Jerry, Harold, Jason, Glenn and Wayne Hall, Urshell Cantrell, Roger Barrow and Carroll Sutherland.
        The body is at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday. The family is at the home of her son, Jamie L. Hall, 9 Berea Drive.

Mrs. B. F. Hall
    
Mrs. Eva Hammett Hall, 71 of 6 Ellendale Ave, wife of Benjamin (Ben) F. Hall, died at her home yesterday at 12:50 am after several years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
     A lifelong resident of Greenville County she had lived in the Double Springs community for some time and later for many years in the Reedy River community, before moving to her latest address two years ago.
     Her parents were the late Elijah and Susan Grice Hammett, natives of South Carolina.
     Mrs. Hall was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
     Surviving also are 3 daughters, Mrs. Lucille H. Barron, and Mrs. Ila Cantrell of Greenville and Mrs. Betty Jo H. Surrett of Baltimore, MD; 3 sons, Thomas, Willie A. and Charles Lee Hall of Greenville; 28 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
     A son, Fred Hall, died in Greenville July 29, 1961.
     Funeral services will be conducted at Reedy River Baptist Church Tuesday at 11 am by Rev. Seth P. Hester and Rev. Robert A. Lyles.  Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
     Grandsons will be pallbearers; Andrew Hall, Ercil Cantrell, Roger Barron, Wayne Hall, Jerry Hall, and Jason Hall.
     The Men's Bible Class of Reedy River Baptist Church will be honorary escort.
     The body is at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, but will be placed in the church at 10 am Tuesday.
     The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Barron, but will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 pm today.

Fred H. Hall
        Fred Henry Hall, 54, of Rt. 2, Dill Road, Taylors, in the Double Springs community, died at a local hospital at 7:30 a.m. yesterday following nine months illness.
        Mr. Hall was a native of Greenville County and spent most of his life in the Reedy River community until he moved to the Double Springs community 11 years ago. Born Aug. 22, 1906, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Hall. He was an automobile mechanic, presently employed by Bill Cooley's Auto Service.
        He was a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church.
        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Black Hall; six sons, Fred Andrew Hall of Easley, James Leroy Hall of Greenville, Buddy David Hall of Rt. 7, Greenville, Horace Franklin Hall of Rt. 1, Travelers Rest, Paul Edward Hall and Raymond Lee Hall of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Ann and Judy Louise Hall of the home; three brothers, Charlie Lee Hall, Willie A. Hall and Thomas Hall of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille H. Barron and Mrs. Ila H. Cantrell of Greenville and Mrs. Betty Jo H. Surrett of Baltimore, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. S.P. Hester at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Geneva Hall
        Funeral services for Miss Geneva Hall, 20, who died at her home at Travelers Rest yesterday morning at an early hour following several months of illness, will be held from the Reedy River Baptist church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Brown, of Williamston, will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
      Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Pruitt, Earl Gossett, Walter Bridwell, Frank Marchbanks, Ruthel Duncan and Alvin Hester.
      Miss Hall was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hall and had spent her entire life in the Travelers Rest community. Prior to her illness she was employed at the Nuckasee Manufacturing company.
      She was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church.
      In addition to her parents, she leaves four sisters, Lucile, Illa, Annie Sue and Betty Joe Hall, and five brothers, Fred, Charlie, Willie, Thomas and Franklin Hall, all of Travelers Rest.
      The body is at the home pending the hour of service.

 
Paul Edward Hall
    
Paul Edward Hall, 60, 18 Melodyaire Ct, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
        He was the son of the late Fred and Dora Hall.
       Surviving is his wife, Sandra Hall; sons, Tony Hall and Bobby Hall; brothers, Horace Hall, and Raymond Hall; sisters, Judy Armstrong and Sara Staton; grandchildren, Tori Hall, Tyler Hall, and Colleen Hall.
       The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until noon Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Reedy River Baptist Church. The family is at the residence.

John I. Hamby
         John Isaac Hamby, 71, of 1203 West Parker Road, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1991, at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.
         Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late John Leonard and Myrtle Forrester Hamby. He was a graduate of Parker High School and formerly owned and operated Superior Dry Cleaners on Cedar Lane Road. Mr. Hamby had been a member of City View First Baptist Church for 63 years; president of the Pruitt Memorial Sunday School Class, former president of the Keenagers Senior Group Club of the Church, former deacon and chairman of the Board and served as Brotherhood president, former chairman of the Building Committee and for many years was superintendent of the Sunday School and was also a choir member of the church.
         During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.
         Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Peggy Moody Hamby; twin daughters, and son-in-law, Miss Connie Lee Hamby of the home and Bonnie and Carl V. Enlow, also of the home; a sisters, Mrs. Velma H. Campbell of Greenville; and one grandson, John Christopher Enlow.
         Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday at City View First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery, near Travelers Rest.
         The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 PM Sunday and will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM Monday.
         The family is at the residence.

Catherine Grice Hammett
          Mrs. Catherine Grice Hammett, one of the oldest citizens of the Locust Hill section, died yesterday. She was a native of Lincolnton, N.C., but had lived in Locust Hill for over 50 years.
          Survived by daughter, Mrs. A. Hunt of Locust Hill; 2 sisters, Mrs. Martha Odom and Mrs. J.D. Cartee of Greenville and 5 grandchildren.
          Buried: Reedy River Baptist Church 28 Mar 1930.

Mollie Harris
       
    Mrs. Mollie Gwaltney Harris, 72, wife of John Harris of the Reedy River community, Travelers Rest, died at a Greenville Hospital Thursday at 9:20 a.m. following a long period of declining health with six weeks of serious illness.
          Mrs. Harris was a native of Marshall, N.C., and lived in Glenville, W.Va. For some time prior to coming to the Reedy River section 21 years ago. Here parents were the late George G. and Sara Ann White Gwaltney, natives of Virginia and North Carolina, respectively.
          She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and of the Mother's Class of the Sunday School.
          In addition to her husband, survivors include three sisters, Mrs. A.E. Cole, Raleigh, N.C., and Misses Lottie and Georgia Gwaltney, both of Marshall, N.C., and one brother, Leon Gwaltney of Asheville, N.C.
          Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth P. Hester. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
          Pallbearers will be Clyde Hester, Will Batson, Bub Hill, Douglas Coleman, Allen Batson and James Jewell. They will meet at the church at 1:50 p.m.
          The members of the Mother's Class of Reedy River Church will compose the honorary escort and will meet at the church at 1:50 p.m.
          The body will remain at the Stilwell Mortuary until the hour of departure for the church. It will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for one hour before services.

Nancy M. Harrison
            LIBERTY, Dec. 14 -- Mrs. Nancy Marchbanks Harrison, 90, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James W. Davis here late today. She was a widow of the late Joseph T. Harrison.
         Grandmother Harrison, as she was known to many, was near her 91st birthday. She was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church.
         She is survived by the following children: W.Y. Harrison, Wade H. Harrison, H.M. Harrison, G.W. Harrison, Frank P. Harrison, Mrs. W.J. Mullinax and Mrs. James W. Davis. Three brothers, William Marchbanks, Marian B. Marchbanks and Geo. W. Marchbanks survive, as does one sister, Mrs. Annie Ponder. Thirty-eight grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren also survive.
         Funeral services will be held from Reedy River Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. George Pennell and the Rev. H.A. Knox.

Ida Hart
   
     TRAVELERS REST -- Mrs. Ida Hammett Rider Hart, 90, died at a Greenville Hospital Sunday morning after an illness of the past several years.
       Born in Greenville county, she was daughter of the late Elijah and Catherine Hammett. Mrs. Hart had lived all her life in the Travelers Rest section of upper Greenville county. At the time of her death she lived with a son, Eugene Rider of the Pleasant View Welcome community.
       She was a member of Reedy River Baptist church.
       Mrs. Hart was married twice, first to Herman Rider. Surviving are their four sons, General Rider, Avery Rider, Eugene Rider and Dean Rider, all of Travelers Rest. Her second marriage was to Anthony Hart and surviving are three stepdaughters, Mrs. Etta Mitchell of Greer, Mrs. Cora Odom of Taylors and Mrs. Effie Davis of Laurens; two stepsons, W.W. Hart of Woodruff and D.W. Hart of Greer; and thirteen grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be conducted at Reedy River Baptist Church Tuesday at 4 p.m. by Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers are B.F. McDaniel, Norwood Childs, Troy Grant, Jim Bragg, Leon Looper and Rev. Lynell Peterson.
       After 3 p.m. today the body will be at the son of her home, Dean Rider, on Tubbs Mountain Road.
       O'Dell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Hawkins Infant
     
Funeral services for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barney S. Hawkins of Griffin, Ga., were held yesterday afternoon at the graveside in the Reedy River Baptist church cemetery near Travelers Rest.
       Mrs. Hawkins before marriage was Miss Elizabeth Hill of Greenville.
       Besides the parents, the child is survived by two brothers, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Hill, and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. J. B. Hawkins.
 
Alice Kennemore Hawkins
        Mrs. Alice Kennemore Hawkins, 75, widow of Frank Hawkins, of Route 4, Travelers Rest, died at a Marietta hospital at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday after a long period of declining heath and a serious illness of four weeks.
       Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late Asa and Savannah Green Kennemore and was born November 22, 1883 in Greenville County. At one time she lived in the Forrestville community but for the past 50 years had made her home in the Little Texas community near Travelers Rest. Her husband, Frank Hawkins, died October 5, 1930.
       She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.
       Surviving are 1 son, Ansel Hawkins and 1 daughter, Mrs. Grace H. Kelly, both of Travelers Rest; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, Arthur Kennemore of Greenville and 1 half-sister, Mrs. Perry Batson of Travelers Rest.
       Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Tankersley, the Rev. Don Howell and the Rev. J. A. Stewart at 11 a.m. Friday at the Clearview Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
       Nephews will be pallbearers: Edward Phillips, Willard Kennemore, James Kennemore, Grady Hawkins, Thomas Bridwell and Frank Bridwell.
       Honorary escort will be members of the Mother's Class and of the Willing Workers Class of the Sunday School, with deacons of the church and Dr. T. E. Coleman. The body will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs Grace Kelly on State Park Rd. in the Little Texas Community at 11 a.m. today.

 Ann Elizabeth Roe Hawkins
     
     Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Roe Hawkins, 70, prominent matron of Paris Mountain township, whose death occurred at her home at 11:20 o'clock Friday night following several years of declining health, will be held Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at Reedy River Baptist Church. The services will be conducted by. Dr. Frank K. Pool, assisted by Rev. J. Sam Shaw. The body will be laid to rest on the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
         The following will serve as the pallbearers and will meet at the residence at 5 o'clock: Fred Roe, Henry Roe, Hubert Roe, James B. Hawkins, Ford Thackston and Hawkins H. (W.?) Ashmore.
         Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late Henry D. and Mary (Gibson) Roe and was born and reared in the O'Neil section of Greenville county. Some 45 years ago she moved to Paris Mountain township.
         Mrs. Hawkins was a devoted member of the Reedy River Baptist church, and was a regular attendant as long as her health permitted, maintaining an interest in all affairs of the church as long as she lived.
         She is survived by her husband, Walter C. Hawkins.
         Also surviving are two brothers, J. Eugene and Joel T. Roe and one sister, Mrs. Della R. Wever.
         Pending the hour of service the body is at the home.

Annice Hawkins
     
Mrs. Annice Batson Hawkins, 74, of 1 Hawkins Creek Road, Rt. 7, Greenville, widow of Herman C. Hawkins, died Sunday.
        Born in Greenville County, daughter of the late Hosea Wesley and Leatha Rainey Batson, she was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
        Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Johnny Weems of Greenville; a son, Harold H. Hawkins of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Ford Hester of Greenville; three brothers, Jones W. and Hosea C. Batson of Greenville and Woodrow W. Batson of Ware Shoals; four grandchildren and a great grand-child.
        Funeral services will be Tuesday at a time to be announced at Reedy River Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
        The family is at the home of Mrs. Weems, 1 Hawkins Creek Road.
        The body is at The Mackey Mortuary, where the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Claude Hawkins
        Claude David Hawkins, 81, of No. 8, Texas Ave., died Saturday.
        He was retired from Zonolite Division of W.R. Grace & Co., Travelers Rest.
        Surviving are his wife, Margaret P. Hawkins, a son, Truman Hawkins of Myrtle Beach; and daughters, Lois Deanovich, Doris Marquis and Beatrice Rainey, all of Greenville, and Patricia Martin of Silver Springs, Md.
        Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church.
        Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest.

H. C. Hawkins
     
Herman C. Hawkins, 73, of Rt. 7, Greenville, died yesterday at 6 a.m. in Austin, Tex., following a sudden attack. He was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Johnny Weems of Austin (Texas), when he suffered the attack.
        Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Jim Barney Hawkins and Lurana Stewart Hawkins.
        Before his retirement, Mr. Hawkins was associated with Greenville Ice and Fuel Co.
        He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church. He was a veteran of World War I.
         Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annice Batson Hawkins; one daughter, Mrs. Johnny Weems of Austin (Texas); a son, Harold H. Hawkins of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Houston Batson of Travelers Rest, Miss Ruth Hawkins and Mrs. Mae H. Watson, both of Rt. 7, Greenville; six brothers, J.C. Hawkins, Dayton Hawkins and C. Eugene Hawkins, all of Greenville, Barney Stewart Hawkins of Griffin, Ga., Frank Hawkins of Lavonia, Mich., and Boone Hawkins of Rt. 7, Greenville; and three grandchildren.
         Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. S. P. Hester and Rev. W. D. Weathers. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Pallbearers, meeting at the church at 3:45 p.m., will be Clarence Keeler, Arthur, Don and Drew (Dreugh) Batson and Jimmy Hawkins and Carroll League.
         Honorary escort, meeting at the church at 3:50 p.m., will be the deacons and Men's Bible Class of the church.
         The body is at the home of Boone H. Hawkins and Miss Ruth Hawkins. It will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. today.
         The Mackey Mortuary is in charge.

Isabell Hawkins
        Miss Isabell Hawkins, 67, Travelers Rest, died at her home there yesterday morning at 11 o'clock from an illness extending over a period of several months. Her condition had seemed greatly improved during the last few weeks, however, and her death was unexpected. Miss Hawkins was well known in Travelers Rest and throughout Greenville county as she had spent her entire life at the place of her death. She was from childhood a devoted member of the Reedy River Baptist church.
        The deceased is survived by one brother, L.J. Hawkins, two nephews, Bub and Frank Hawkins and one niece, Mrs. J.W. Bridwell, all of Travelers Rest.
        Funeral services will be conducted from the Reedy River Baptist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. Mr. Wood. Interment will be in the family plot in the churchyard. The following have been asked to serve as pallbearers: J.N. Batson, G.W. Bridwell, C.C. Smith, Arthur Henderson, J.R. Keeler and W.B. Coker.

J. Barney Hawkins
          J. Barney Hawkins, a highly respected citizen of Paris Mountain township, died at his home yesterday after week's illness. Mr. Hawkins was a popular man throughout his section and well known in Greenville. He never aspired to any official position in politics, preferring the quiet life of a farmer, of which vocation he made a success.
        He was a veteran of the war between the States, having been a member of Earle's battery of artillery.
        Mr. Hawkins was seventy-five years of age. He leaves surviving him eight children: Mrs. M.A. Talley, Mrs. Josephine Green, Mrs. Hattie League, Mrs. Alice Ashmore, Mrs. Ella Thackston, J.B., W.C. and J.B. Hawkins.
        For many years, Mr. Hawkins was a deacon of Reedy River church, and the funeral services will be held there today at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Edward Ashmore.

J. Boone Hawkins
      
 
J. Boone Hawkins, 80, of Route 7, Hawkins Creek Road, died Saturday.
         He was a retired farmer and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the Adult Christian Fellowship.
         Surviving are a brother, Barney Stewart Hawkins of Griffin, Ga., and two sisters, Ruth Hawkins of the home and Mrs. Houston Batson of Travelers Rest.
         Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
         Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest.
         Memorials may be made to the Greenville County Cancer Society or to the building fund of Reedy River Baptist Church.

James Barney Hawkins
      
James Barney Hawkins, a widely known farmer of the Buncombe road section just north of Greenville, dropped dead at noon Thursday while he was thrashing grain in his fields.
         Co-workers with Mr. Hawkins ran to his assistance and a physician was immediately summoned. However, all efforts to revive him proved futile. After an examination the attending physician announced that heart failure was the cause.
         Mr. Hawkins was 62 years of age.
         He is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters, Mrs. J. R. Keeler, Mrs. J. L. O. League, Mrs. Houston Batson and Miss Ruth Hawkins, Herman, Eugene, Dayton, J. C., Frank, Boone and "Mutt" Hawkins.
         Mr. Hawkins was born and reared within sight of his present home and the place of his death. He was well thought of among a wide circle of friends, and had reared a large and useful family.
         The deceased was a member for many years of Reedy River church.
         Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Sunday morning at Reedy River church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hester.
         The pallbearers will be Crawford League, Clyde Ashmore, Paul Thackston, Walter Greene, Barney Talley and Ansel Hawkins. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

J. C. Hawkins
         James Crawford Hawkins, 76, of Pilot Road, Rt. 7, Greenville, died Sunday.
         Born in Greenville County, son of the late James Barney and Lurana Stewart Hawkins, he retired in 1955 as a Captain on the Greenville Fire Department after 32 years service. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Cooper Masonic Lodge at Travelers Rest.
         Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Shockley Hawkins; a daughter, Mrs. James W. Kennedy of Greenville; a son, James C. Hawkins Jr. of Rt. 7; three sisters, Mrs. May Watson and Mrs. H. L. Batson of Travelers Rest and Miss Ruth Hawkins of Greenville; three brothers: Frank Hawkins of Azalea, Mich.; Boone Hawkins of Greenville and Barney Stewart Hawkins of Griffin, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
         Funeral services will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
         The body is at The Mackey Mortuary, where the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will be placed in the church Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Jaredie B. Hawkins
          Mrs. Jaredie Belle (Cox) Hawkins, wife of J. Crawford Hawkins and a beloved resident of the Buncombe road, near this city, passed away at a hospital in Greenville Tuesday morning after several weeks of failing health.
         Mrs. Hawkins was 38 years of age and before her marriage was a Miss Cox of the Travelers Rest section of this county. Her husband and five small children, one girl and four boys, survive her, the youngest being twins three months old. one sister, Mrs. J.B. League, of Travelers Rest, and a brother, Ford Cox, of Travelers Rest, also survive.
         Mrs. Hawkins has been a devout member of Reedy River church, near her home, since girlhood, and her funeral services will be held at the church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. F.K. Poole. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

John Crawford Hawkins
     
Funeral services for John Crawford Hawkins, well known resident of the Buncombe Road, will be held at 11 o'clock Sunday at Reedy River Baptist church, near his home. The Rev. Mr. Hester will conduct the services and the interment will be in the church cemetery.
       The following gentlemen, nephews of Mr. Hawkins, will be the pallbearers: Messrs. J. B. League, J. C. Hawkins, P. D. Hawkins, Clyde C. Ashmore, Walter E. Green and Paul K. Thackston.
       Mr. Hawkins died in this city late Thursday night after an illness of about three weeks. He was 50 years of age. His wife preceded him to the grave, her death occurring on the 15th of last January. he is survived by four sons and a daughter, besides a large family connection.
       For many years Mr. Hawkins was a member of Reedy River church and he was also a member of the Woodmen of the World, Paris Camp, and of Cooper Lodge No. 282, of Masons, which fraternity will have charge of services at the grave.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lurana Stewart Hawkins, resident of the Buncombe road, will be Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by Rev. S. P. Hester and Rev. S. J. Gardner. Interment will be made on the family plot in the church cemetery.
         The following will serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at the home at 2:30 o'clock: Clarence Keeler, Carroll League, Harold Hawkins, Arthur Batson, Frank Hawkins and Fletcher Hawkins.
         The honorary escort will be composed of the deacons of the Reedy River Baptist church and the following who are asked to meet at the church at 2:50 o'clock; Roy Pace, Edgar League, C. J. Hill, A. G. Hill, Johnie Marchbanks, Hosea Batson, Frank Shockley, Barney Talley, Ford Thackston, Walter Green, Hawkins Ashmore, Claude Stewart, Jr., Edward Stewart, Dr. Harry Navarre, Edgar Lipscombe and Twyman Dill.
         Mrs. Hawkins had lived in the community in which she died for the past 62 years and died at 7:40 o'clock Saturday morning, following several months of failing health.
         She was a daughter of the late Henry and Caroline (Jones) Stewart and was born at Fountain Inn 79 years ago. She lived at Fountain Inn until she moved to the homesite on the Buncombe road. She was always interested in all activities looking to the upbuilding of the community in which she lived so long. She was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church and took a very active part in the work of the church.
         She was the widow of J. B. Hawkins, who died in August 1925.
         Surviving are seven sons, Herman Hawkins, Eugene Hawkins, Dayton Hawkins, J. C. Hawkins and Boone Hawkins, all of Greenville; Frank Hawkins, Northville, Mich., and Stewart Hawkins, Griffin, Ga.; four daughters, Mrs. J. R. Keeler and Mrs. Houston Batson, Travelers Rest, Mrs. Mae H. League and Miss Ruth Hawkins, both of Greenv1lle; one brother, W. C. Stewart, two sisters, Mrs. Metta Dill and Mrs. Eva McHugh, all of this city; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
         Pending the hour of the service the body will remain at the residence.
 
Luther Jackson Hawkins
     
 
Funeral services for Luther Jackson Hawkins, 70, who died at the home of Ernest Batson yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock after an illness of 20 months, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Reedy River Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. L. B. White of Travelers Rest.
        Mr. Hawkins was the son of the late Henry Hawkins of Travelers Rest. He spent his entire life in this community and was a prosperous farmer.
        He was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church since early childhood. Mr. Hawkins was the last member of his immediate family, as his sister Miss Bell Hawkins preceded him to the grave in 1925.
        He is survived by his two foster children, Mrs. O. L. Collins Greenville; Ernest Batson, Travelers Rest; one niece, Mrs. Mary Bridwell, one nephew, Bob Hawkins, both of Travelers Rest.
        The following are requested to serve as pallbearers: W. J. I. Edwards, J. M. Williams, B. F. Burns, R. E. Benson, L. H. Shelton, and N. J. Batson.
        Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

Margaret P. Hawkins
      
Margaret Phillips Hawkins, 83, of 10 Callahan Ave., died Oct. 22, 1993, at Baptist Medical Center Easley. She was an employee of Stone Manufacturing Co. before she retired and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         A lifelong resident of Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Elford and Hattie Marchbanks Phillips.
         Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Lois) (D)eanovich and Mrs. Jordan B. (Bea) Rainey, both of Greenville, Mrs. Richard (Pat) Martin of Silver Spring, Md., and Mrs. Frank P. (Doris) Smith of Easley; a son, Claude Truman Hawkins of Myrtle Beach; four sisters, Bertie Harmon, Frankie Hightower, Hazel Addis and Helen Jenkins, all of Greenville; and two brothers, Gilbert Phillips and Roy Phillips, both of Greenville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin Phillips and Dean Phillips.
         Private services, for immediate family only, will be held Sunday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
         The families are at their respective homes.

Susan Hawkins
     
Mrs. Susan Hawkins, aged 65 years, is dead at the home of her husband, J.B. Hawkins, in Paris Mountain Township near Reedy river Baptist church. Death occurred yesterday from heart disease.
        Mrs. Hawkins was born Oct. 27, 1833 and died April 3, 1899 in her sixty-sixth year.
        She was married to Mr. J. B. Hawkins Oct. 13, 1851. She was a joy and a comfort to her husband, whom she leaves behind in great bereavement.
        She was well known and highly connected in that section and leaves many friends to sympathise with the family in their sad loss. Beside the widower, eight children survive. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Reedy river Baptist church, of which she was one of the oldest members. She loved her church and the cause of Christ.

         Walter Ansel Hawkins, 61, of Buncombe Road, Rt. 7, Greenville, died Monday at 12:20 p.m. at a local hospital.
         He was a lifelong resident of Greenville County, son of the late Crawford and Jaredie Cox Hawkins, and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church. He was an employee of Batson Oil Co. at Travelers Rest.
         Surviving are a sister, Miss Susan Hawkins of Greenville; and three brothers, J.B. “Buster”, Fletcher J. and Frank G. Hawkins of Greenville.
         Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 2:30 p.m. at the Mackey Mortuary by the Rev. Seth P. Hester. Burial will be in Reedy River Baptist Church cemetery.

Walter Choice Hawkins
      
Funeral services for Walter Choice Hawkins, lifelong resident of Greenville County, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, at the Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S. P. Hester. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
         The following pallbearers will meet at the Church at 4:15 o'clock: J. Ford Thackston, Barney Talley, Hawkins Ashmore; Roy League, P. Dayton Hawkins and Walter Greene.
         Mr. Hawkins died at 11.55 o'clock Wednesday night in a Travelers Rest Hospital, following several years of declining health and an illness of three weeks.
         Born July 5, 1872, in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Barney and Susan Roe Hawkins. He engaged in farming until his retirement several years ago.
         Mr. Hawkins was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Roe Hawkins, died in 1943.
         He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his immediate family.
         The body will remain at the Mackey Mortuary until 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon when it will be placed in the church to lie in state until the hour of the service.
         The family is at the home of Miss Susan Hawkins and Ansel Hawkins, on the Buncombe Road.

  Walter Frank Hawkins, 73, of 521 Pemberton Drive, Grosse Point, Mich., died Saturday in Michigan.
       A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Barney and Lurana Stewart Hawkins. He was retired from Edison Electric Co. in Detroit, Mich., and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
       Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Hawkins Hawkins; sisters, Mrs. H. L. Batson of Travelers Rest and Mrs. (Miss) Ruth Hawkins of Greenville; brothers, Boone Hawkins of Greenville and Barney Stewart Hawkins of Griffin, Ga.
       The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Mackey Mortuary late Wednesday and the family will receive friends at the mortuary Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
       The body will be placed in the church Friday at 2:30.
       The family will be at the home of a sister and brother, the old Hawkins home on Buncombe Road. It is requested that any memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

        Mr. William E. Hawkins died at his home near Enoree church Monday morning after a week's illness of pneumonia, age 65 years.
       Mr. Hawkins is survived by two sons. Mr. Henry M. Hawkins and Mr. William F. Hawkins and Mrs. Mary Bridwell, all of this county.
       He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and his funeral services will be held there Tuesday at 11 o'clock.

Funeral services for William Franklin Hawkins, 48, who died at his home in the Bates Township at noon Sunday (October 5) will be held today at 11:00 at the Reedy River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev.        Mr. Hawkins was a son of the late William E. and Louise Hester Hawkins. He had been in failing health for the past 3 years. He was one of Greenville County's progressive farmers and had lived his entire life in the home where his death occurred. Mr. Hawkins was a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.
       He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Kennemore Hawkins, one son, Ansel Hawkins and one daughter, Miss Grace Hawkins, all of Travelers Rest; one brother, H. M. Hawkins and one sister, Mrs. Mary Bridwell, both of Travelers Rest.

Charles Robert Hester, 62, of 6 Derwood Circle, husband of Mary Ellen Spell Hester, died Friday at a local hospital following an extended illness.
         A lifelong resident of Greenville, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Mattie Foster Hester. Before his retirement, he was employed with Piedmont Industries. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and a former member of the choir.

Diane Hester
      The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Hester Jr., of Travelers Rest, died at a local hospital Monday at 4:05 p.m.
        Mrs. Hester was the former Miss Marie Starkey, daughter of L.M. Starkey and the late Mrs. Starkey of Greenville.
        Mr. Hester is with the United States Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.. he will return home for the funeral services.
        Besides the parents and the maternal grandfather, survivors include the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hester of Travelers Rest.

Eugene E. Hester
      
Eugene Edward ``Gene'' Hester, husband of Margaret Prince Hester, died Oct. 21, 1991 at his home in Greenville, SC. He was 74 years old.
         Born in Greenville County July 5, 1917, he was the oldest son of Steven Perry and Irene Spearman Hester.
         During his work career, he was affiliated with the meat packing industry, beginning at age 17 with Balentine Packing Company and continuing with this firm 7 years, followed by employment with Armour and Company as a shipping clerk. World War II interrupted his civilian life and he served our country for 30 months with the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions in the Pacific Theater of War. When honorably discharged from service, he again resumed work with Armour as a salesman. His promotions included Branch Manager, District Manager and for several years before his retirement in 1979, was a Zone Manager over the Carolina Zone of Armour-Dial Inc. In all, he had worked for Armour and its affiliates for 38 years.
         He was a lifelong member of Reedy River Baptist Church. For many years he was the secretary of the Adult Assembly of his church and was a former member of the choir. He was a member of Cooper Masonic Lodge, A.F.M. 242 and a former member of the Civitan Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters and sons-in-laws, Genia and E.E. Lennert of Greenville, Rosalind and Dan E. Wood of Travelers Rest and Susan and Rick G. Townsend of Glen Allen, Va..; four grandchildren: Christopher Lennert, Zachary Wood, Tanna and Hayden Townsend. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Alvin (Mary Sue) Bridwell and two brothers: Troy W. Hester and Floyd S. Hester, all of Greenville. He was predeceased by another brother, Roy Hester.
        Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. Gerald Martin and Rev. Seth P. Hester. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Fred James Hester, 69, of 2 Nora Drive, died Saturday at a local hospital after a period of declining health.
         A lifelong resident of Greenville County, he was born on November 21, 1915 and was a son of the late J. Norman and Dora Robertson Hester. He was associated for 38 years with the L.B. Clardy Company until his retirement in 1978. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Marines.
         Mr. Hester was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.

     Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Spearman Hester, 67, wife of S. Perry Hester of Patrol Club Road will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. S.P. Hester and Rev. C. Leon Chandler. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

          Mrs. Hester died yesterday at 8:25 a.m. at a local hospital after several months of declining health and an illness of two weeks.

          She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Mothers' Class of the Sunday School and was active in all phases of work of the church.
          Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Alvin Bridwell of Greenville; 4 sons, Eugene, Troy and Floyd Hester of Greenville and Roy Hester of Travelers Rest; 3 sisters, Mrs. Matt Grady of Macon, Ga., Mrs. Clara Campbell of Greenville and Mrs. Mamie Bolt of Atlanta; 2 brothers, Joe Spearman of Cheraw and Lewis Spearman of Columbia, and 10 grandchildren.

James Homer Hester
         Funeral services for James Homer Hester, 74, retired farmer of Davidson Road, Duncan's Chapel community, will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester, the Rev. Leon Chandler and the Rev. R.J. Marsh. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

         He died at a local hospital Saturday at 4:45 p.m. after a serious illness of four weeks.

         Mr. Hester was a member and former deacon of Reedy River Baptist Church and had been Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School.

Mary Elizabeth Hester
          Mary Elizabeth Springfield Hester, 84, of 5505 Old Buncombe Road, Greenville, wife of Wilbur Martin Hester, died Wednesday, Mary 27, 1991 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
          Born in Greenville County, October 12, 1906, Mrs. Hester was a daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Waldrop Springfield. She was retired from Piedmont Industries in Greenville. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and also was a member of the Mother's Day (sic) Sunday School class, Adult Christian Fellowship and Evie Duncan Circle #1 of Reedy River Baptist Church.
          Survivors in addition to her husband of the home are 1 daughter, Mrs. Jean H. Freeman and son-in-law, Bruce L. Freeman, of Greenville; two grandchildren, Brent L. Freeman and Bryan M. Freeman of Greenville. Mrs. Hester was the last member of her immediate family.
          Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday March 29, 1991 at the Reedy River Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Gerald Martin and Rev. Sethie P. Hester. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.             Mrs. Mattie Foster Hester, 84, widow of Robert Balla (sic) Hester of Rt. 4, Travelers Rest, died at the residence at 1:46 p.m. Saturday.
            Born Jan. 11, 1884, in the Sandy Flat Community of Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Winfield Scott and Rebecca Belue Foster. Most of her life was spent in the Travelers Rest Section. Her husband died in 1933. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
            Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ollie M. Hommel, St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Haskell Poole (Anne) of Marietta, Mrs. Harold M. Dupree (Frances) and Mrs. Ernest R. Kellett (Evelyn) of Greenville; five sons, James Clyde Hester of Travelers Rest, Alvin P. Hester, Crawford W. Hester and Charles R. Hester, all of Greenville and Willie O. Milton Homer Hester, 63, husband of Elva McCollum Hester of Route 9, N. Parker Road, Greenville, died Friday.
        Born December 14, 1919, in Greenville County, son of the late Homer and Ollie Brown Hester, he was a salesman for Moore-Tinsley Supply Company, In., and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, the church choir and the Brotherhood Bible Class. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy.
        Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Donnie L. Hester of Pickens, M. Steve Hester and Jeffrey L. Hester, both of Greenville; two sisters: Mrs. Alma H. Bryson and Mrs. Carol H. Gilreath, both of Greenville; two grandchildren, Heather and Brandon Hester, both of Greenville.
        Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. Gerald Martin and Rev. S. P. Hester. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.

Norwood Thomas Hester, 54, of Route 7, Patrol Club Rd., husband of Cornelia Legare Hudson ``Connie'' Hester, died Thursday.
         Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Homer and Ollie Brown Hester.
         He was associated with Union Bleachery and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
         Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Pamela Jayne English of Greenville and Miss Rebecca Helen Hester of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Alvin (Alva) Bryson and Mrs. Ray (Carol) Gilreath, both of Greenville; and two brothers, Allen W. Hester and James Paul Hester of Greenville.
         Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Gerald Martin, Rev. Richard King and Rev. Seth Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Pallbearers will be Terry Rumler, David Batson, Jimmy Batson, Doug Hester, Richard Hester, Steve Hester, Jeff Hester, Benny Bryson and Teddy Hester.

James C. Hester Jr.
          Airman second class James C. Hester Jr., 22, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident July 1 in California, arrived in Greenville yesterday afternoon.
          He had spent his entire life in the Reedy River community until March, 1952, when he entered the service.
          He was a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church.
          Surviving are his wife, the former Marie Starkey; one son, James C. Hester III; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hester Sr.; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin E. Finley, Marietta, Rt. 2, and Katherine Hester, Travelers Rest, Rt. 1; two brothers, Robbie and Ralph Hester, Travelers Rest, Rt. 1, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Hester, Greenville, Rt. 7.
          The body will be at the home of his mother and father after 2 p.m. today.
          Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester and Rev. John Turner. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors at the grave.
          Active pallbearers will be J.B. Turner, James Willis, Jimmy Bouchillon, Truman Hawkins, Raymond Moody and Ernest Clayton.

  James Paul Hester, 73, of 1008 N. Parker Road, died Saturday, December 1, 1990, at Saint Francis Hospital after a brief illness.
          Born February 20, 1917 in Greenville County, he was the son of the late James Homer and Ollie Brown Hester. Before his retirement he was associated with Cone Mills, Union Bleachery Plant. Mr. Hester was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School and was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army.
          Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katherine Brewer Hester; two sons, Richard L. Hester of Fayetteville, N.C., and Douglas L. Hester of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Alma H. Bryson and Mrs. Carol H. Gilreath, both of Greenville; a brother, Allen W. Hester of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Terri and Alan Hester.
          Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery by the Reverend Gerald Martin and the Reverend S.P. Hester.

Robbie K. Hester
        Robbie Kenneth Hester, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hester of Travelers Rest, was accidentally killed Saturday at 8 a.m. while at work with a construction firm on New Buncombe Road.
        The youth was a life-long resident of Travelers Rest and was a graduate of Travelers Rest High School. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Marvin E. Finley of Rt. 2, Marietta, and Miss Katherine Hester of the home; one brother, Ralph Hester of the home; and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Hester of Rt. 7, Greenville.
         Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 5 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Pallbearers will be James Trammell, Roger Smith, Truman Hawkins, Jack Anderson, James Willis, Jack Fisher, John Faile and Bill Williams.

Robert Ballas Hester, better known to his many friends as "Rob”, died at his home on the Buncombe road yesterday morning.
       Mr. Hester had made his home in Greenville county his entire life. He was a son of the late W. M. Hester and Mary Marshbanks Hester. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist church and also of the Woodmen of the World, at Paris camp No. 339. Mr. Hester was born October 13, 1880.

S. Perry Hester
       Stephen Perry Hester, 73, retired farmer of Patrol Club Road, died at a local hospital at 11:40 a.m. yesterday after several years of declining health and a week of serious illness. He was a native of Greenville County, a son of the late Martin W. and Mary Marchbanks Hester and had spent all of his life in the same section.
       He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was active in all of the work of the church as long as he was able and was a former deacon and superintendent of the Sunday School.
       His wife, Mrs. Irene Spearman Hester, died Aug. 20, 1962.
       Mr. Hester is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alvin Bridwell of Greenville; four sons, Eugene E., Troy W., and Floyd S. Hester, all of Greenville, and Roy H. Hester, of Travelers Rest; five sisters, Mrs. Evie Duncan, Mrs. Lula Bridwell, Mrs. Modelle Robinson and Mrs. Sunie Turner, all of Greenville, and Mrs. Fannie Black of Travelers Rest; a brother, W.M. Hester of Greenville, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Stephen Perry Hester
        Funeral services for Stephen Perry Hester, seven-weeks-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Hester of New Buncombe road, will be held at Reedy River Baptist church at 11 o'clock this morning. Services will be conducted by Rev. S.P. Hester.
        The child died at the family home at 6 o'clock Wednesday morning.
        Before her marriage Mrs. Hester was Miss Mildred James of this city.
        In addition to his parents the child is survived by four sisters, Barbara Ann Hester, Norma Jean Hester, Betty Alice Hester and Linda Marie Hester; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Dora Hester, and his maternal grandfather, R.T. James.
         Pending the hour of the service the body is at the home.

Sherry Lynn Hester
        Funeral services for Sherry Lynn Hester, infant daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. S.P. Hester, were conducted at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the graveside in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery by Dr. B.F. Rogers and the Rev. Roy Hester.
       The child died Thursday night at a local hospital. Mrs. Hester was Miss Ruth Miller before her marriage. For eight years, the Rev. S.P. Hester has been pastor of Reedy River Baptist Church and the residence is in that community.
       Surviving, in addition to the parents, are one sister and two brothers, Marian, Ben and Terry Hester, and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mariah Hester, all of Greenville.

Tony Martin Hester, 41, of Ridgeview Condominiums, died Jan. 2, 1993, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
        He was a self-employed contractor and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church. He attended Monaghan United Methodist Church.
        Surviving are his wife, Patricia Carey Hester; his mother and stepfather, Pauline T. and Jewell Hammond of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Tiffany M. Watkins and Michelle L. Cieslak, both raised in the home; two sons, Wesley M. Hester and Sean Hester, both of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Liesa Clayton and Carie Hanley, both of Baltimore; and a sister, Janet P. Vaughn of Greenville.

Troy Wesley Hester Sr., 76, of 150 Honeysuckle Drive, died May 25, 1995, at his home.
        Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late S. Perry and Irene Spearman Hester.
        He was retired from Union Bleachery after 30 years and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class.
        Surviving are his wife, Ruth Masters Hester of the home, a daughter, Brenda Hester Workman of Spartanburg; a son, Troy Wesley Hester Jr. of Greenville; a brother, Floyd S. Hester of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Joseph Holton Workman Jr. Jacob Perry Hester, Colin Isaac Hester, Aaron Wesley Hester, Charles Jessee Zelinder V, Becca Workman. Randy Perry Hill and Charity Dawn Scott; and one great-granddaughter, Valerie Scott.
        He was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Ann Hester, and a son, Randy Perry Hester.

Wesley Hester
          Wesley M. Hester, 40 of 201 McMakin Drive, died at 5 p.m. yesterday following a sudden attack.
          Mr. Hester, who had lived all his life in Greenville County, was employed with Carolina Blouse Co.
          He was a son of Mrs. Mattie Foster Hester and the late Robert Hester.
          He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, a member of the choir and director of the Royal Ambassadors of the church.
          Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Thompson Hester; a daughter, Miss Janet Hester; one son, Tony Hester; his mother; four sisters, Mrs. H. Hommel of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. H.W. Poole, Mrs. E.W. Kellett and Mrs. H.M. Dupree, all of Greenville; and five brothers, Clyde Hester, Alvin Hester, Crawford Hester, Charles Hester and Willie Hester, all of Greenville.

Wilbur(n) Martin Hester, 94, formerly of 5505 Old Buncombe Road, died Oct. 18, 1995, at Oakmont East Nursing Center.
        Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late William Martin and Mary Marchbanks Hester and the husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Springfield Hester.
        He was the former owner and operator of Hester's and was a postal carrier.
        He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bruce Freeman of Greenville; two sisters, Sunnie Turner and Modell Robinson, both of Greenville; two grandsons, Brent Ligon Freeman and Bryan Martin Freeman; and two great-granddaughters, Mari Kate Freeman and Jordan Allison Freeman.

W. Martin Hester
        Funeral services for W. Martin Hester, life-long resident of Paris Mountain township, who died at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his home, will be held on Friday morning at 11 o'clock, at the Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Frank K. Pool, and the interment will be made in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
       Serving as the active pallbearers will be Messrs. W.C. Hawkins, Frank Marchbanks, Jerry Phillips, J.D. Childers Sr., C.J. Hill and P.D. Hawkins.
       The honorary pallbearers will be Messrs. K.M. Nabors, S.D. Addis, Tom Burns, Dr. T.E. Coleman, P.E. Hudson, H.W. Batson, J.G. Lipscomb, H.C. Hawkins, W.H. Taft and Carroll Mills.
       Mr. Hester was 76 years of age, and his death followed one week's illness. He was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church, and was highly respected in his community.
       Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mr. Robert B. Hester, Mr. J. Homer Hester, Mr. J. Norman Hester, Mr. S. Perry Hester and Mr. W.M. Hester, all of Greenville; Mrs. W.Y. Black, of Travelers Rest; Mrs. Evie Duncan, Mrs. E.L. Bridwell and Mrs. W.T. Turner, all of this city. He is also survived by 42 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William K. Hightower Jr.
   
   
William King Hightower Jr., founder and president of the William K. Hightower Real Estate and Insurance Agency, died Jan. 18, 1995. He was 70.
         Hightower, of 114 Davidson Road, was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years before he retired. He founded the real estate and insurance agency in 1956, serving as president.
         He was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents Association and the South Carolina Association of Auto Insurance Agents. He was a member of Greenville Board of Realtors.
         He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church on the North Highway 25 Bypass, a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He helped organize and served as chairman of the Cemetery Perpetual Trust of the church.
         He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
         He was former president of the District 3 Parent-Teachers Association and was awarded a lifetime P.T.A. membership for service at Duncan Chapel school.
         Surviving are his wife, Frances Phillips Hightower of the home; a son, William King "Kin" Hightower III of Greenville; and a daughter, Carol Leake of Simpsonville.
         Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Reedy River Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

William King (Kin) Hightower III
     William King Hightower, III died Sunday, August 29, 2010.
     Born May 26, 1947 in Greenville, he was the son of William K., Jr., and Frances Phillips Hightower; and grandson of William K., Sr., and Jennie Baber Hightower, and Elford E. and Harriett Marchbanks Phillips.
     Kin was a graduate of Travelers Rest High School, attended Furman University, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was owner of Foothills Tax Service, and a member of the SC Taxpayers Assoc.
     He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church where he was a teacher of the Men's Fellowship Class.
     Kin was a member of Greenville Chapter SC Genealogical Society, and 16th SC Volunteers Camp #36 Sons of Confederate Veterans on record of his great-grandfather, Peter Cauble Marchbanks.
     Survived by his mother, Frances Hightower; son, Brian Hightower and wife Jennifer; daughter Annette Hightower-Henson; sister, Carol Leake and husband Mike; grandchildren, Kelsey, Jackson and Grayson Hightower; Alexandria and Michaela Henson; nephews, Sam and Mitch Leake; aunts Birdie Harmon and Lilly Phillips; and uncle, Howard Addis.
     Visitation Tuesday, August 31 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

C.J. (Bub) Hill
           Charlie Jackson (Bub) Hill, 71, of the Reedy River Church community, died Wednesday at a local hospital following a sudden illness. he had been in declining health for some time.
          He was a native of the Duncan Rd. section, a son of the late Charlie B. and Addie Thackston Hill and had spent all his life in the county and engaged in farming.
          He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School and since his health failed had become a member of the extension department of the church. He was also a member and past master of Cooper Masonic Lodge at Travelers Rest.
          Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannie League Hill, and one niece and two nephews.
          Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
          Pallbearers will be Roy Pace, Frank Marchbanks Jr., Raymond Williams, Ansel Hawkins, Ford Thackston and Young Bridges. They will meet at the church at 2:45 p.m..

         Mrs. Nannie Sue League Hill, 78, of Old Buncombe Road, Rt. 7, Greenville, widow of Charlie J. (Bub) Hill, died Monday at 10:55 p.m. at a local hospital following two weeks of serious illness.
          A native of Greenville County, she was a daughter of the George M.A. and Hattie T. Hawkins League.
          She was a lifelong member of Reedy River Baptist Church and had served as treasurer of the W.M.U. of the church. She taught in the Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Mothers class of the Sunday school.
          Surviving are a sister, Mrs. L.H. Childers of Greenville; and three brothers, George A. League and Edgar B. League of Greenville and Crawford C. League of Waynesville, N.C.
          Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. Seth P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
          Pallbearers will be Guy Childers, Manning League, Bobby League, Woodruff League, Raymond League and Joe Phillips.

            Annie Hipp Hollingsworth, 92, of 16 Tenth St., Judson, widow of Jacob A. Hollingsworth, died Saturday.
          Born in Greenville County, she was a retired textile employee and the oldest member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
          Surviving are daughters, Lucille H. Irvin of Greenville, Mildred H. Armstrong and Juanita H. McCall of Easley, sons, W.C. (Bill) and Sam G. Hollingsworth of Greenville; 30 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
          Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Reedy River Baptist Church; burial in the church cemetery.

          Jacob Andrew Hollingsworth, 73, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Clyde Sexton, 13 Rowley St., Thursday at 3:55 p.m. after two weeks of serious illness and a period of failing health.
           He was born and raised in Pickens County, a son of the late Clinton and Mary Weams Hollingsworth. Most of his life was spent in Greenville where he engaged in carpenter work and farming until his retirement. The family home is 16 10th St., Judson.
           He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Pelzer.
           His wife, Mrs. Annie Hipps Hollingsworth, survives him with 6 daughters, Mrs. Sexton, Mrs. Ganell Ellison, Mrs. Willie Irvin, Mrs. Hubert Stegall and Mrs. John L. Armstrong of Pickens; two sons, W.C. and Sam Hollingsworth of Greenville; 1 sister, Mrs. L.B. Case of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 3 brothers, E.H. Hollingsworth of Greenville, Dan Hollingsworth of Rock Hill and Bruce Hollingsworth of Pendleton; 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
          At 2 p.m. Friday the body will be taken to the home, 16 10th St., Judson.
          Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester, the Rev. R.J. Marsh and the Rev. Esley Campbell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

       Wilburn Clinton (Bill) Hollingsworth, 83, of 33 Fourth Street, Judson Community of Greenville, died Thursday, December 10, 1987 at a Greenville Hospital following a period of declining health.
        Born August 22, 1904 in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Annie Hipp Hollingsworth. He was a retired building contractor and was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and The Man's Bible Class.
        Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on December 12, 1987.
        Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Propst Hollingsworth; a daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Doris) Smith of Thomson, Ga.; two sons, Jack R. Hollingsworth and Charles F. Hollingsworth, both of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Juanita H. McCall of Easley; a brother, Sam G. Hollingsworth of Piedmont, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
        A daughter, Mrs. Wilma J. Hawkins, died in 1970.
        A son, J.W. Hollingsworth, died in 1975.
        Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

      Charles Frank Hollingsworth, 80, of 12 Woodtrace Circle, Rolling Green, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at McCall Hospice House.
       He was a native of Kings Mountain, NC and a son of the late William and Gertrude Propst Hollingsworth.
       He is survived by his loving family, wife, Ann Pruitt Hollingsworth, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Greg Sieber of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Donna Hollingsworth of Ware Shoals; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Ann Hollingsworth; sister, Dot Smith; grandchildren, Coy Hollingsworth, Amy H. Benoit, Blake, Hunter and Kendall Sieber; and great-grandchildren, Charlie, Mary and Ethan.

Mrs. Margaret "Rita" Lipscomb Hood, 71, of Rt. 1, Travelers Rest, Enoree community, died Saturday.
         Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James G. and Linda Stewart Lipscomb and lived in Seattle, Wash., before moving to Travelers Rest six years ago. She was a retired employee of Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Rufus Robertson of Rt. 1, Travelers Rest, Mrs. Ken Smith of Mountain Home, Ark., Mrs. Henry Nevers of Bellevue, Wash., and Mrs. James Grubbs of Sandston, Va.; a son, R. Henry Hood of Bainbridge, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Maude L. Dawson of Rt. 7, Greenville, Mrs. Jessie L. Burns of Rt. 4, Travelers Rest, and Mrs. Louise L. Melton of Bremo Bluff, Va.; two brothers, Henry B. Lipscomb of Gastonia, N.C., and J. Edgar Lipscomb of Hardeeville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dock B. Howard
        Funeral services for Dock B. Howard, 65, whose death occurred in a local hospital late Tuesday night, will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from Cedar Lane Baptist church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Rhyne and the Rev. S.W. Jolly and interment will be in the Reedy River church cemetery.
        Cooper Lodge No. 282, A.F.M., will have charge of the services at the graveside and all members of the lodge were requested to meet at the hall in Travelers Rest at 2:30 this afternoon.
        The following will serve as active pallbearers: Leonard Nix, Dave Burns, W.M. Ward, C.J. Hill, Sam Aiken and Alex Olson. A group of Masons will serve as the honorary escort.
         Flower bearers will be Rebecca Williams, Betty Jo Galloway, Peggy Hipps, Leona Gosnell, Virginia Brown and Edith Phillips.
         Mr. Howard was born and reared in Travelers Rest and there began his career as a merchant. Later he came to Greenville and operated grocery stores in several textile communities. He was a retail merchant on the Cedar Lane road for 15 years until two years ago.
         Mr. Howard was a member of Cooper Masonic lodge at Travelers Rest for 32 years. In November of last year he was presented a lifetime, dues paid-in-full, charter membership by the lodge as one of its oldest constituents. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist church.
          Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Allsep Howard; three daughters: Mrs. S.A. Callaham, Miss Dorothy Howard and Miss Doris Howard of Greenville; five sons, James B. D.B. Jr., Carl and Walter Howard of Greenville and Paul Howard of Lovelock, Nev.; two brothers: W.G. Howard, of Travelers Rest, and E.W. Howard, of Slater; and one sister, Mrs. W.S. Marchbanks, of Travelers Rest. Six grandchildren also survive.
          Until the hour of the burial services, the body will be at 300 Hill street, Riverdale. Pallbearers were requested to meet there at 2:15 o'clock.

        Mrs. Elizabeth Allsep Howard, 85, of Saluda Dam Road, widow of Dock Benjamin Howard, died Tuesday.
        A native of Greenville County, daughter of the late Elija and Sue Brown Allsep, she lived in Greenville County since 1911, was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and a charter member of Eastern Star.
        Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. S.A. Callaham and Mrs. Robert L. Moore of Greenville and Mrs. Curtis C. Watson of Easley; four sons, James E. Howard of Travelers Rest, Thomas Carl Howard of Maudlin and Walter L. and Dock B. Howard Jr. of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Marley Loftis of Greenville and Mrs. Clayton Batson of Woodruff; a brother, the rev. E.C. Allsep of Greenville; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
        Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

           Paul Howard, former Greenville resident, drowned Sunday when a boat capsized near his home at Dillon, Mont.
         Mr. Howard is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Howard; four brothers, James, Carl, Walter and D.B. Howard; and three sisters, Mrs. S.A. Callahan, Mrs. Robert Moore and Mrs. Curtis Watson. All are of Greenville, except Mrs. Watson, who lives near Easley.

Clifton B. Hudson
        Clifton B. Hudson, 39, retired Army captain, died at 9 a.m. Sunday at his home, Greenville, Rt. 7. He had been in ill health for several years and his condition became series three weeks ago.
         A native of Greenville County, Mr. Hudson was a son of Mrs. Eva Lipscombe Hudson and the late Perry Edwin Hudson.
         Mr. Hudson entered service in 1941 and served in France, Germany and Belgium during World War II. he did occupational duty in Okinawa. In 1950 he retired from the Army and returned to Greenville to live.
         He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Janie Atkinson Hudson; his mother, Mrs. Perry E. Hudson and a sister, Mrs. Harlen Jones, of the home; four brothers, Homer C. Hudson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Roy O. Hudson, Ernest B. Hudson and Perry A. Hudson of Greenville.
         Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites at the graveside.
         The following nephews will serve as pallbearers: Robert Hudson, Roy Hudson Jr., Bruce Hudson, Eugene Jones, Ronald Hudson, Marvin Styles and Norwood Hester.
         The honorary escort will be Perry Hester, Walter Turner, Roy Pace, Frank Watkins, J.P. Traynham Jr., Edgar Lipscomb, Clyde Sprouse, Eugene Hester, Robert Clayton, Floyd Hester, J.P. Traynham Sr., Ford R. Hester and Roy Bridwell.

           Elliott Austin Hudson, esteemed citizen of Paris Mountain township, died suddenly late Monday afternoon at his home, six miles north of this city at the advanced age of seventy-seven years.
         Funeral services are to be conducted on Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock from Reedy River church. Friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend the services.

Ernest B. Hudson
        Ernest Bruce Hudson, 50, resident of Patrol Club Road, died at Clearwater Beach, Fla., Friday at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Hudson suffered an attack while swimming.
         Mr. Hudson made his home on Patrol Club Road the past several years and had been a resident of that community his lifetime. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Greenville the past 18 years.
         Born in Greenville county, he was the son of the late P.E. Hudson and Mrs. Eva Lipscombe Hudson. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
         Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Eva Lipscombe Hudson of Greenville; his wife, Mary Louise Barnett Hudson of the home; three sons, Bruce F. Hudson of Rome, Ga., Lt. Glenn Hudson of U.S. Air Force, Tampa, Fla., and Raymond E. Hudson of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Harlen E. Jones of Greenville; three brothers, Homer Hudson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Roy Hudson and Perry Hudson of Greenville and one grandchild.

Eula E. Hudson
       
Miss Eula E. Hudson, beloved resident of this county, died at her home at 2:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Miss Hudson had been in declining health for more than a year.
       Miss Hudson was born and reared and had spent her entire lifetime in the community where she died. Her parents were Elliott A. Hudson and Adeline Phillips Hudson.
       Miss Hudson was a member of Reedy River Baptist church. She was keenly interested in the activities of the church where she had been a member since early childhood.
       Surviving are one brother. P. E. Hudson, of Paris Mountain township and several nieces and nephews.
       Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Reedy River Baptist church. The services will be conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Loudermilk and interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
       The following persons are requested to meet at the Jones mortuary at 3 o'clock to serve as active pallbearers: Perry Hester, Roy Pace, Herman Hawkins, Walter Turner, Lloyd Dawson and R. W. Schenck.
       Composing the escort of honor will be John L. Watkins, J. G. Lipscombe, S. F. Lowery, H. Y. Thackston, H. W. Batson, J. T. Bridges, H. E. Stewart, B. L. Bridges, Dr. T, E. Eva Hudson
       Mrs. Eva Lipscombe Hudson, 85, widow of Perry Edwin Hudson and resident of North Parker Road, died at a Greer nursing home Saturday at 7 p.m. following 15 months of declining health.
       Mrs. Hudson was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lipscombe and was born and reared in Greenville County. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
       Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Jones of North Parker Road; three sons, Roy O. and Perry A. Hudson of Greenville and Homer C. Hudson of Greensboro, N.C. Also there are 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. S.P. Hester at 2 p.m. today in Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be Robert C. Hudson, Roy Hudson Jr., Bruce F. Hudson, Raymond Hudson, Ronald C. Hudson and Norwood T. Hester.
       Members of the Mothers Class of the Sunday School of Reedy River Baptist Church will be honorary escort.

         Mrs. Lillian Morgan Hudson, of Honeysuckle Drive, Rt. 7, Greenville, died in a Greer nursing home at 9 p.m. Saturday after several years of declining health. She was the wife of Roy. O. Hudson.
        A native of Seneca, she was a daughter of the late Jesse M. and Lenora Holley Morgan. She came to Greenville from Washington, D.C., in 1950. She was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and Group 6 of the W.M.S.
        Surviving also are one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Weinstein of Charleston; two stepdaughters, Mrs. A.W. (Patricia) Tyson Jr., of Atlanta, and Mrs. Norwood T. (Connie) Hester of Greenville; one stepson, Roy O. Hudson Jr., of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Carter of Easley and Mrs. W. Clyde (Jessie) Christopher of Greenville; one brother, O'Dell Morgan of Seneca; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
        Funeral services were to be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial was to be in the church cemetery.

Perry Edwin Hudson, 74, farmer and former school teacher, died at his home at 6 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
       Mr. Hudson was a son of the late Elliott Austin and Adeline Phillips Hudson and was born and reared in Greenville county.
       He was a member of Reedy River Baptist church.
       In addition to his wife Mr. Hudson is survived by five sons, Homer C. Hudson of Winston-Salem, N. C., Roy O., Ernest B., Perry A. and Lt. Clifton Beattie Hudson, all of Greenville; one daughter, Mrs. H. E. Jones, of Marietta.
       Funeral services will be this afternoon at 4 o'clock at Reedy River Baptist church. Rev. S P. Hester will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be J. Edgar Lipscombe, Ford Hester, Clyde Sprouse, Roy K. Bridwell, E. G. Pace and Russell Burns.

         Doris Marett Hughes, 73, of 5 S. Parker Road, died Monday, March 1, 1999 at her home.
       Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of Fay Driver Marett and the late Richard B. Marett of Greenville. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and Esther Sunday School Class.
       Survivors: her mother, Fay Driver Marett of Greenville; daughters, Vicki Dix, husband, Carl, of Travelers Rest, and Lisa Waldrop of Pickens; a sister, Margaret Burden of Mauldin; a brother, Bradford Marett of Greenwood; grandchildren, the Rev. Toby Dix and wife, Julieann, Tori Dix, Travis Dix and Kerry Cole; great-grandchildren, Brooke Dodgens and Madison Dix.
        She was predeceased by her husband, Glen Hughes and father, Richard B. Marett.
        Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Howze Mortuary Chapel, with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gertrude Hughes
         Mrs. Gertrude Taft Hughes, 58, native of Plymouth, Michigan, but for the past 15 years a resident of this city, died at the family home, on the Old Buncombe road, at 7:30 o'clock yesterday morning, following one week's illness. Mrs. Hughes was for a number of years connected with the Burroughs Adding Machine company and had more recently done clerical work in the office of the delinquent tax collector. She was a member of the Christian church.
         She is survived by her husband, Floyd Hughes of this city. Her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Taft, of Greenville, also survive, as does one sister, Mrs. C.S. Butterfield of Medford, Oregon, and one half-sister, Mrs. C.S. Mills, of Greenville.
         Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held this morning at 11 o'clock, at the Mackey mortuary, conducted by the Rev. C.T. Squires, pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian church, and interment will be made in the cemetery of the Reedy River Baptist church.
         The following persons will serve as pallbearers and meet at the mortuary shortly before 11 o'clock: E. Inman, Estes Howell, W.K. Thackston, E.E. Chapman, Edwin Meyers, J.A. Barrett, Walter Hawkins and Dayton Hawkins.
         Pending the hour of the service, the body will remain at the mortuary.

        Glen Hughes, 54, of 1 South Parker Road, died Sunday.
        A native of Orangeburg County, son of Mrs. Ida Hughes Hughes and the late Gilbert C. Hughes, he was associated with American Security Guard, Inc., a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
        Surviving also are his wife, Mrs. Doris Marett Hughes; two daughters, Mrs. Vicki Dix of Greenville and Miss Lisa Hughes of the home; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Standard of Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, G.C. Hughes of Tucker, Ga., and Lindbergh Hughes of Neeses; and three grandchildren.
        Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reedy River Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Daniel Richard “Ricky” Hughey, 16, son of Daniel W. and Sue Edens Hughey of Pinecrest Drive, Rt. 4, Travelers Rest, died Friday night of injuries received in an automobile accident at the intersection of Highway 25 and by-pass 25.
       Born in Greenville, he was a tenth grade student at Travelers Rest High School. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Royal Ambassadors of the church.
       Surviving also are two sisters, Misses Teresa and Robin Hughey of the home; two brothers, Randy Hughey and Timmy Hughey of the home; and his grandparents, Mrs. D. F. Hughey of Travelers Rest and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Younce of Piedmont.
       Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Reedy River Baptist Church by Revs. Seth P. Hester and John J. Bandy Jr., with burial in the church cemetery.
       The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Helen Thackston Hunt, 88, of White Horse Road, widow of Boyce Waymon Hunt, died Sunday.
Born in Greenville County, a practical nurse at Gaston Hospital, Travelers Rest, she attended Tigerville Academy and Chicora College, was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and of the Mother's Sunday School class.
      Surviving are a daughter, Martha Hunt Jameson of Liberty; sons, Milton E. Hunt of Travelers Rest and Robert T. Hunt of Anderson; sisters, Juanita T. Watkins, Maude T. Mauldin and Louise T.         MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mary Frances Hunt, 74, of 936-B Lansing Drive, died Saturday.
        She was a retired key punch operator with Charleston Naval Supply Center and was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church.
        Surviving are three brothers, Thomas Wilson Hunt of Pickens, Raymond A. Hunt of Greenville and Warren M. Hunt of Travelers Rest; and four sisters, Mrs. Homer Bishop, Mrs. Charles Bishop and Mrs. Charlie Reeves, all of Greenville, and Bette Hanson of Mount Pleasant.

         ANDERSON, May 17 -- Mrs. Peggy Cauble Hunt, 26, died Thursday morning at Anderson Memorial Hospital after an illness of about 10 days.
         She is survived by her husband, Robert T. Hunt; one brother, Alfred L. Cauble of Charlotte; one sister, Mrs. R.P. Watson of Greenville; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lucius L. Cauble of Charlotte.

Raymond Arthur Hunt, 71, of Route 3, Roe Ford Road, died of natural causes March 23, 1987.
      He was owner and operator of R. A. Hunt Lumber and Pallet Co.
      He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church where he was former Sunday School superintendent and treasure of the Cemetery Trust Fund.
      He was a former teacher at Valley Springs High School in Skyland, N.C.., and Fairforest High School in Spartanburg.
      He was a baseball player and coach for several local textile teams. He was manager of baseball teams in North Carolina and Florida and a member of the St. Louis Cardinals farm club in Washington, Pa.
      He served with the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve.
      Surviving is his wife, Patricia Summey Hunt; four sisters, Mrs. Thomas P. (Elizabeth) Wright of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Homer E. (Eleanor) Bishop, Mrs. Charles H. (Mildred) Bishop and Mrs. Charles J. (Evelyn) Reeves, all of Greenville; and two brothers, T. Wilson Hunt of Pickens and Warren M. Hunt of Travelers Rest.

    Roger Truett Hunt, 36, of Mauldin, died at a local hospital at 3:40 p.m. following an illness of three days. He had been in declining health for the past four years.
        He was a native of Greenville County and a son of Mrs. Ella Hunt Hunt and the late Thomas M. Hunt and had spent all of his life in this county. He graduated from Travelers Rest High School, Mars Hill Junior College and Furman University.
        He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church, near Travelers Rest, and was a member of Cooper Lodge AFM. He was a 14-degree Mason. He was a Veteran of World War II and was wounded in the battle of St. Lo in Normandy.
        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lavinia Vickery Hunt of the home; his mother of White Horse Road; five sisters, Mrs. Frances Hunt of Charleston, Mrs. Charles H. Bishop of Augusta, Ga., Mrs. T.P. Hanson of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. H.E. Bishop and Mrs. C.J. Reeves, both of Greenville; and three brothers, T. Wilson Hunt, of Pickens and Raymond A. Hunt and Warren M. Hunt, both of Greenville.
        Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be Lake Thomas, Belton Hunt, Milton Hunt, Frank Robinson Hunt, Dr. J. Harold Arnold and Richard Chiles.
        Honorary escort will be the deacons of Reedy River Baptist Church and Dr. J.L. Anderson, Sr., Dr. J.L. Anderson Jr., J.L. Hawkins, Ed Sloan, Ed Chiles, Otis Pearson, Alex Mostella, T.M. Verdin , Frank Roberts and Sam Aiken.
        The body is at the Mackey Mortuary and will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
        The family is at the home near Mauldin.

Sarah B. Hunt
         Mrs. Sarah Broadman (Roe) Hunt, 78, wife of T.W. Hunt and a lifelong resident of the Paris Mountain township of this county, passed away at her home at 7 o'clock yesterday morning following a very brief illness. Mrs. Hunt was ill for only a few hours. She was the daughter of the late T.W. and Sarah Stradley Roe and was well known throughout the county. She was a member of the Reedy River Baptist church.
        Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Sallie H. Thomas of Greenville, and three sons, Thomas M. Hunt and Dana B. Hunt, both of this city, and S.J. Hunt of Batavia, N.Y.
        One brother, T.W. Roe of Greenville, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Hawkins and Mrs. A.W. Carter, both of Greenville; Mrs. B.M. Moore, of Simpsonville, and Mrs. R.A. Kay, of Easley, also survive in addition to 12 grandchildren.
        Funeral services for Mrs. Hunt will be held at the Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Frank K. Pool, tomorrow, further announcements concerning which will be made later.

Sadie Hunt
          Sadie, the seven-month-old infant of Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Hunt, died at the home of her parents near Montague, early Monday morning following a short illness.
        The family have the sympathy of a large number of relatives and friends in the sad dispensation and removal of this little child.
         The funeral services and interment will be held at Reedy River church at 11 o'clock Tuesday.

Thomas M. Hunt
    
Thomas M. Hunt, 56, of the Hunt's Bridge section, died yesterday afternoon following a brief illness.
      Mr. Hunt was a farmer and proprietor of Hunt's fish house near his home. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Hunt, and the following sons and daughters: Wilson, Raymond, Roger, Warren, Mrs. Frances, Eleanor, Mildred, Elizabeth Evelyn Hunt, all of Greenville county; two brothers: S. Jeter Hunt of Moundsville, and Dana B. Hunt, of Greenville county, and a sister, Sallie H. Thomas, of Greenville county.
      Mr. Hunt was a member and a deacon of Reedy River Baptist church. He was also a member of Cooper Masonic lodge No. 282, Armstrong camp, Woodmen of the World, and of Ticoma chapter of the Eastern Star.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at Reedy River Baptist church. The Rev. Archie Brickle will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Frank K. Pool. The honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Reedy River Baptist church and the members of the Cooper lodge of Masons. Those serving as active pallbearers will be Will Hawkins, James M. Whitmire, George Carter, Roe Kay, Thomas Moore and Thomas Roe.
      Until the hour of service, the body will remain at his home. The interment will be in the church cemetery.

Thomas W. Hunt
    
Funeral services for Thomas Washington Hunt, 81, widely know Confederate veteran of this county, will be held tomorrow morning at Reedy River Baptist church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. F.K. Pool.
      The following persons will be the pallbearers: James M. Whitmire, Wm. M. Brockman, Yates Moore, Roe Kay, Thomas A. Roe, W.R. Hawkins and John Carter. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
      The death of Mr. Hunt occurred yesterday morning at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sallie H. Thomas, 226 Laurens street following an illness of 10 days.
      The family home is in Paris Mountain township, and the death of Mr. Hunt follows closely to that of his wife, who died on March of this year.
      The following sons and daughters survive him: Mrs. Sallie H. Thomas of Greenville, S.T. Hunt of Batavia, N.Y., and T.M. and D.B. Hunt of Greenville county. A sister, Mrs. F.J. Whitmire of Travelers Rest, also survives him.
