Belva Landreth
        Mrs. Belva Landreth, aged 31, wife of T.M. Landreth of 223 Alexander street, died early yesterday morning after a brief illness with pneumonia.
       Mrs. Landreth is survived by her husband, and an infant daughter; her mother, Mrs. Tildy McCall; one sister and three brothers, W.H. McCall of this city; A.T. McCall of Danville, Va., and R.G. McCall of Alabama.
       Funeral services are to be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the Reedy River church.

Ellen S. Latham
       Mrs. Ellen Summerell Latham, of 201 West Washington Street, died Saturday, August 9, 1986, following several days of serious illness.
       A native of Anderson, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillie Shaw Summerell. She had lived in the Greenville area most of her life and was formerly a nurse's aide on the staff of St. Francis Community Hospital before her retirement. Mrs. Latham was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
       Surviving are a son, The Reverend Christopher Latham, Pastor of St. John's Catholic Church in Summerville, S.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie S. Davis, Mrs. Corrine S. Burdett and Mrs. Alberta S. Hayes, all of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Evie S. Southers of Gainesville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
        The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church by the Reverend Christopher Latham.
        Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        The body will be at the home of her sister, Mrs. Bessie S. Davis, 108 Highlawn Avenue.
        Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 330 West Washington Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601 or to St. Francis Community Hospital, One St. Francis Drive, Greenville, S.C. 29601 - Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

Mary Laughter
        Mrs. Mary Laughter died at 7 o'clock Monday night at her home, No. 14 Cain Street at an advance age of 80 years.
        She has lived in Greenville county all of her life and was loved by all that knew her.
        G.W. Laughter of Greenville, her son, and two brothers, G.W. and P.C. Marchbanks of Greenville county survive her.
        Funeral services will be held at the Reedy River Baptist church this morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. Mr. Harris. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Catherine B. Lavender
          Mrs. Catherine Lee Barton Lavender, 52, of 70 Mockingbird Rd., Swannanoa, NC, died December 11, 1993 at Solace Hospice Center, Asheville, N.C.
        Born August 27, 1941 in Greenville, she was a daughter of Mrs. Cordelia Rayfield of Asheville, NC and the late Oscar Lee Barton.
        Mrs. Lavender was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and a former employee of Craggy Prison in Asheville. She was also a member of Friends For Animals and the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #9157, Black Mountain, NC.
        In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Patricia B. Jones of Greenville and a brother, Jimmie Barton of Swannanoa, NC. She was predeceased by a son, Joey Barton.
        Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Northwest Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 6710 White Horse Road. Interment will follow in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 25, North, Greenville.
        The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m.
        The family is at the home of Mrs. Patricia B. Jones, 336 Motor Boat Club Road.

Edith Lawson
      Funeral services for Miss Edith Lawson, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Lawson, whose death occurred at a local hospital Wednesday morning, will be held from the Reedy River Baptist church at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. W.K. Lowdermilke will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
      Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Julian, Carl O'Kelley, Willie Gilleland, Willie Griffin, Osro Gilleland and Roy Sexton.
      Flower girls will be Misses Tressie Julian, Mary Gilleland, Mattie Juliana and Thelma Timmons.
      The family came to Greenville a few months ago and located in the Montague section of this county. They were formerly of Arkansas, where Miss Lawson was born and reared. She attended the Methodist church.
      In addition to her father and mother, she is survived by three sisters, Misses Mildred, Nellie Lee and Wilma Lawson, city, and four brothers, Vernon Lawson, Kylesford, Tenn., Thurmon, Paul and Harrison Lawson, all of Greenville.
      The body is at the residence pending the hour of service.

Allen League
        TRAVELERS REST -- Robert Allen League Sr., 75, of 3242 Riverview Lane, Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Travelers Rest, died Sunday.
        He was a retired merchant of Travelers Rest and was a motel owner in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was a member of Travelers Rest First Baptist Church, a former member of the board of directors of the Associated Grocers of Greenville, and on the board of directors for the Bank of Travelers Rest. He was a former trustee of the Greenville Hospital System.
        Surviving are his wife, Pauline Bridwell League of the home; a son, Robert Allen “Bobby” League Jr., of Greenville; and a brother, Norwood League of Greensboro, N.C.
        Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Travelers Rest with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Howze Mortuary.
        In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Annie Sue League
    
 
Mrs. Annie Sue League, wife of L. Roy League. and prominently connected in this city, died at 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She had been in failing health for almost a year and during the past few weeks her condition had steadily become worse.
      Mrs. League was a daughter of Mrs. Alice Ashmore and the late Charles L. Ashmore, both of whom were from distinguished Greenville county families. She was born on October 20. 1901.
      She was a devoted member of Reedy River Baptist church and was for many years an active worker in the Sunday school. Mrs. League was interested in all phases of the church work. She was a trustee of Reedy River school for a number of years.
      Because of her gentle disposition and pleasing personality Mrs. League was known and loved by countless friends throughout the county.
      In addition to her husband she is survived by one daughter, Gladys Susan League and one son, Lawrence Crayton League. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Alice Ashmore: two sisters. Mrs. F. S. Moody, Jr.. of Greenville and Mrs. Ferris Munn, of Greenville; three brothers. W. Hawkins Ashmore, of Greenville, Clyde C. Ashmore. of Columbia and G. Heyward Ashmore, of Miami, Fla.
      Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock from Reedy River Baptist church. The body will be carried to the residence at 10 o'clock this morning to await the hour of the service.
      The services will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Loudermilk and interment will be in the church cemetery in the family plot.
      The following will serve as active pallbearers: Ford Thackston, Ansel Hawkins, Allen League, Clarence Keeler, Russell League and Hex Moody.

 
Barney Franklin League
    
 
Barney Franklin League, 6, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. O. League, 304 Mulberry street, Tuesday night at 11 o'clock. Death followed an illness of only three days.
       Besides his father and mother, he is survived by one brother, Carol League, and his grandmother, Mrs. Lou Rainey (Lurana) Hawkins.
       Funeral services will be conducted from Reedy River Baptist church this morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. H. I. Hester will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
       The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers: J. E. Smith, B. G. Dearman, G. M. Freeman and William Berry.
 
Charlie Mae League
       HARTSVILLE _ Charlie Mae Milford League, 92, of 1122 Pinehurst Drive, died April 26, 1995, at a hospital following an illness.
       She attended Long Branch School and the Women's College, now Furman University. She taught school in Cherryville, N.C., and the Parker District of Greenville. She was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville for 50 years. She taught Sunday School and was Young People's director and president of the WMU. She was a member of Hartsville First Baptist Church.
        Surviving are two sons, George Manning League of Spartanburg and Chaplain William Charles League of Fairfax, Va.; and a daughter, Lu Anne Floyd of Hartsville.
        Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, Hartsville, S.C.
        Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Chapel with burial at 4 p.m. in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery near Travelers Rest.
        Visitation: Will be at the residence. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, Hartsville.

Edgar League
    
  
LAVONIA, Ga. -- Edgar Bluford League, 84, of Lavonia, a retired postal clerk in Greenville, S.C., husband of Eula Thomas League, died Tuesday.
        A native of Greenville County, son of the late George M. and Hattie Hawkins League, he attended Furman University and was a charter member of Civil Service Retirees, a veteran of World War I and a member of Reedy River Baptist Church in Greenville.
        Surviving also is a brother, Crawford C. League of Waynesville, N.C.
        Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Weldon Funeral Home, with burial at 4 p.m. Thursday at Reedy River Baptist Church cemetery, Greenville.

Eula League
      
LAVONIA, Ga. -- Eula League, 87, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday.
        She was a retired school teacher and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lavonia.
        Surviving are four sisters, Jessie Thomas of the home, Jewell Mauldin and Ruby Ferguson, both of Lavonia, and Sara Whitlow of Stone Mountain.
        Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Waldon Funeral Home, Lavonia, with burial in Travelers Rest Cemetery, Travelers Rest.
        Visitation: 7 to 9 pm. at the funeral home.

George Matthew Anderson (Bud) League
    
Funeral services for George Matthew Anderson League, widely know resident of the Reedy River Church community, and better know to his many friends as “Bud” League, were held this afternoon at the Reedy River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. F. K. Pool, and the interment made in the family plot of the adjoining cemetery.
      Mr. League was a lifelong resident of this county, having been born in Paris Mountain township on March 11th, 1858, a son of the late George League and Mrs. Louise Ford League. He was a progressive farmer, and was identified with all matters pertaining to the uplift of his community, having served as a trustee in the Reedy River School, and having taken an active interest in the affairs of his community.
      He was a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church. Mr. League's illness was of short duration, having been ill for only eight days, and the end came shortly after 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his home. It is a source of regret to his scores of friends that Mrs. League is confined to bed by illness at this time.
       In addition to his wife, Mrs. Hattie Hawkins League, Mr. League is survived by seven sons; Mr. J. A. League, of Travelers Rest; S.C., Mr. Crawford C. League, of Charlotte, N.C.; Mr. L. Roy League, of Charlotte; Mr. Wade H. League, Mr. J. B. League, Mr. George League and Mr. Edgar League, all of Greenville; and three daughters, Mrs. J. A. Phillips, Mrs. C. J. Hill and Mrs. L. H. Childers, all of Greenville. Twenty-four grandchildren also survive, besides a large family connection.
      Those serving as the pall bearers were the following grandsons: Messrs. Edward League, Russell League, Allen League, Norwood League, Joe Phillips and George Phillips.
 
Hattie K. Hawkins League
     
Mrs. Hattie K. Hawkins League, 75, widow of the late G. M. A. League. and well known resident of Paris Mountain township, died at the family residence at 2:35 o'clock yesterday morning. Mrs. League had been In declining health for a number of years, and while her death was not unexpected her many friends will be saddened by her passing. Mrs. League had lived her entire life in the same community.
       She was a devoted member of the Reedy River Baptist church, and took an active part in the work as long as her health permitted. Mr. League passed away in 1929.
       She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. J. A. Phillips, Mrs. C. J. Hill and Mrs. L. H. Childers, all of this city, and by the following sons: J. A. League and W. H. League, of Travelers Rest; J. B. League, George A. League, Edgar B. League, C. C. League and L. R. League, all of Greenville.
       She is also survived by one brother, W. C. Hawkins, of Greenville; by three sisters: Mrs. M. A. Talley, Mrs. J. E. Thackston and Mrs. Alice Ashmore, of this city; by 25 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
       Funeral services for Mrs. League will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Reedy River Baptist church, Conducted by the Rev. Archie Brickle, who will be assisted by the Rev. Frank K. Pool, and the interment will be made on the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
       The following grandsons will serve as the pallbearers: George Phillips, Allen League, Edward League, Russell League, Woodrow League and Joe Phillips.
       Pending the hour of the service, the body is at the residence, near Travelers Rest.
 
James Lawrence League
      James Lawrence, the sixteen months old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. O. League, died at the home near Travelers Rest Monday morning at 5 o'clock. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Seago, the pastor. Lawrence was a bright lovable little fellow, and will be sadly missed. The parents have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
 
J. L. O. League
       J. L. O. League, member of the police force since 1920, died of a heart attack at 7 o'clock this morning while sitting on the front porch of his home at 304 Mulberry Street.
      He was 49 years old, having been born near Travelers Rest on July 4, 1887. Before joining the police force on April 12, 1920, he was a street car motorman.
      In addition to his patrol duties, he had served as a traffic officer. He had just finished his night shift when he sat down on the porch and was stricken with the sudden attack.
      Mr. League, a son of the late Manning and Lina Smith League, was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and the Junior Order, United American Mechanics.
      He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Hawkins League, and by one son, Carroll E. League, of this city.
      He is also survived by one brother, Frank M. League, of Greenville.
      Funeral services for Mr. League will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Reedy River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank K. Pool, and the interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
      The honorary pallbearers will be the city officials and the personnel of the police department. The active pallbearers will be the following officers of the Police department: C. M. Harbin, R. C. Evans, J. A. Ashmore, C. E. Seawright, L. C. Nix and H. L. Springfield.
      Until the hour of service, the body will be at the family home, on Mulberry Street.
 
Jessie League
        TRAVELERS REST _ Mrs. Jessie Elizabeth Cox League, 88, of 407 Old Buncombe Road, died Monday.
        Born in Greenville County, daughter of the late Robert and Callie Chastain Cox, she was a charter member of Travelers Rest First Baptist Chuch, past president of WMU and an honorary member of Travelers Rest Garden Club.
        Surviving are three sons, Robert A. League of Daytona Beach, Fla.; G. Norwood League of Greensboro, N.C.; and Jesse C. League of Henderson, N.C.; a brother, Ford. C. Cox of Asheville, N.C.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild and a great-great-grandchild.
        Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Travelers Rest First Baptist Church, with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        The body is at The Howze Mortuary and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
        The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby League, 5 Devonshire Drive, Greenville.

Joe A. League
    
 
Joe A. League, widely known merchant of Travelers Rest, died in the Gaston clinic at 7:30 o'clock last night. He had been in declining health for the past year, his condition becoming serious about two weeks ago.
       Mr. League was a member of an old and prominent Greenville county family. His parents were the late G. M. A. and Hattie Hawkins League. He was born near Travelers Rest on Sept. 11, 1881, and had spent all of his life in that community.
       Mr. League was interested in all community affairs. He was for more than 12 years a trustee of the Travelers Rest school. During this time Mr. League was instrumental in having the new Travelers Rest high school building erected.
       He was a member of Reedy River Baptist church, of Cooper Lodge No. 282, Masonic Order, and of Olive Camp No. 344, Woodmen of the World.
       Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jessie Cox League, and three sons, Allen League. of Travelers Rest, Norwood League, of Spartanburg and Jesse League, of Littleton, N. C. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Phillips, Mrs. C. J. Hill and Mrs. L. H. Childers, of Greenville, and six brothers, J. B. League, E. B. League, L. R. League and G. A. League, of Greenville, C. C. League, of Waynesville, N, C. and W. H. League, of Travelers Rest.
       Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock from Reedy River Baptist church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. T. E. Belcher, the Rev. W. A. Loudermilk and the Rev. S. W. Jolly. Interment will be in the church cemetery, The brothers of Mr. League will serve as active pallbearers.
       The body will be carried to the residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon to await the hour of the service and further announcements will be made later by R. .D. Jones & Sons, morticians.

 
George League
        George Anderson League, 84, of 16 Wilton St., former Greenville County school teacher, died Sunday.
        Born in Greenville County, son of the late George and Hattie Hawkins League, he attended Furman University and was a retired salesman for Texas Oil Co., a veteran of World War I, a member, Sunday School supervisor and deacon emeritus of Earle Street Baptist Church.
        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Charlie Mae Milford League; a daughter, Mrs. Aubrey L. Floyd of Hanahan; two sons, George Manning League of Spartanburg, Chaplin William Charles League with the U.S. Navy at the Marine Air Station, Beaufort; two brothers, Edgar B. League of Lavonia, Ga., and Crawford C. League of Waynesville, N.C.; sister, Mrs. Alice Childers of Greenville; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
        Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Earle Street Baptist Church with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
        The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to the charity of one's choice. -- Jones Mortuary.

L. Roy League
        Funeral services for Lawrence Roy League, 59, employee of Coca Cola Bottling Co. and resident of Rt. 7, Greenville, near Travelers Rest, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
        Pallbearers will be Guy Childers, George Phillips, Manning League, Woodrow League and Raymond League. They will meet at the church at 2:45 p.m.
        Honorary escort will be personnel of Coca Cola Bottling Co. and deacons of the church.
        Mr. League had been ill for two years and eight months and seriously ill four days. He died at his home at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday.
        A lifelong resident of Greenville County, Mr. League was born and reared near Travelers Rest. His parents were the late George Matthews Anderson and Hattie K. Hawkins League.
        Mr. League had been with Coca Cola Bottling Co. since 1943.
        He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church. He was a former deacon and president of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School.
        Mr. League was twice married. His first wife was the late Annie Sue Ashmore League, who died in 1938.
        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Miles League; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys L. Henry of Cowpens; one son, Lawrence Crayton League of North Augusta, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. L.H. Childers and Mrs. C.J. Hill, of Greenville; four brothers, James B. League, George A. League, and Edgar B. League of Greenville and Crawford C. League of Waynesville, N.C., and three grandchildren.
        The body is at Jones Funeral Home and will be taken to the church at 2 p.m.

Pauline N. League
          Pauline N. League, 79, formerly of 3242 Riverview Lane, Daytona Beach, Fla., died Oct. 3, 1989 at Oakmont Nursing Center.
          She was a homemaker and a member of Sans Souci Baptist Church.
          Surviving are a son, Robert A. League Jr., of Greenville; two brothers, Perry G. Bridwell of Greer and Grady H. Bridwell of Greenville; and five sisters, Audrey B. Fuller, Eva B. Batson and Lois B. Thomason, all of Greenville; Gaynell B. Lyday of Travelers Rest and Frances Surratt of Rock Hill.
          Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at The Howze Mortuary Chapel, Travelers Rest, with burial in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
          Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
          The family will be at the home of Robert A. League Jr., 5 Devonshire Lane, Greenville.

           TRAVELERS REST -- Pawnee Watson League, 91, of 307 N. Main St., widow of Wade H. League, died Saturday.
           Born in Greenville County, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Travelers Rest, the TEL Sunday School Class, and the WMU.
           Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Fred Williams of Pendleton and Mrs. Hoke Smith of Greenville; sons, Edward League of Black Mountain, N.C., Woodrow League of Greenville, Roger League of Indiantown, Fla., and Raymond League of Travelers Rest; sisters, Mrs. D.E. Smith and Flora Watson of Travelers Rest; a brother, Rev. J.N. Watson of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
           Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at The Mackey Mortuary. burial will be in Reedy River Baptist Church cemetery.
           The family is at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Smith, Route 2, Garlington Road, but will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Wade Hampton League
        Wade Hampton League, 75, farmer of Travelers Rest, died at his residence at 5:45 p.m. Saturday following 10 years of declining health and a serious illness of eight days. He was born in the Reedy River Community of Greenville County, a son of the late G.M.A. League and Hattie Hawkins League. He lived in that community until 1930 when he moved to Travelers Rest.
        He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Travelers Rest and of Olive Camp 344, W.O.W.
        Mr. League is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pawnee Watson League of Travelers Rest; two daughters, Mrs. H. Hoke Smith of Greenville and Mrs. Fred Williams of Pendleton; four sons, J. Edward League of Asheville, Roger H. League of West Palm Beach, Fla., Woodrow W. League and Raymond G. League, both of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. C.J. Hill and Mrs. L.H.          The body will be carried to the home at 1 p.m. Sunday and will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Further announcements will be made by the Mackey Mortuary.

E. B. Lipscombe
    
E. B. Lipscombe, well know Greenville County farmer, died at his home in Paris Mountain township just off the new Buncombe road at 4:10 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been in declining health for the past several weeks.
      Mr. Lipscombe was born in Cherokee county on March 16, 1849, a son of James W. and Jane Strain Lipscombe. He moved to Greenville county when a young man and had been engaged in farming since that time.
      He is survived by two sons, James O. Lipscombe, of Greenville, and Edgar C. Lipscombe, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and one daughter, Mrs. P. E. Hudson, of Greenville. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
      Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from Reedy River Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Loudermilk. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
      The following grandsons will serve as the active pallbearers: Homer Hudson, Roy Hudson, Ernest Hudson, Henry Lipscombe, Edgard Lipscombe and Johnnie Lipscombe.
      Honorary pallbearers will meet at the church at 4 o'clock and are as follows: J. W. Weaver, B. L. Bridges, W. T. Bridges, Walter Hawkins, Henry Thackston, H. E. Stewart, J. D. Thompson, C. J. James G. Lipscomb
           Funeral services for James Garrison Lipscomb, 82, retired farmer of Travelers Rest, will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth. P. Hester. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery with Masonic Rites at the graveside by Cooper Lodge 282, AFM.
         Pallbearers will be Bruce Burns, J.B. Burns, Boyd Burns, Claude Garrett, Rufus Robertson and J.D. Park Jr. They will meet at the home at 3:30 p.m.
         Composing the honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of Reedy River Baptist Church, with Dr. S.I. Coleman, Dr. Landrum McCarrell, Claude Smith, William Phillips, Ralph Batson, Allen Batson, Ralph Bowers, Fred Bowers, Walter Dill, Tave Batson, Mann Batson, J.P. Traynham Sr., Dr. Elbert McKinney and Charles Green. They will meet at the church at 3:50 p.m.
         Mr. Lipscomb died at his home on Love Dr. at midnight Friday following several years of declining health with one week of serious illness.
         He was born in Walker County, Ga., but was a lifelong resident of Greenville County, having been brought to the Travelers Rest section at the age of six weeks. His parents were the late E. Bruce and Emily (Garrison) Lipscomb.
         Mr. Lipscomb was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church for 69 years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher for many years. He was a member of Cooper Lodge 282, AFM.
        Mr. Lipscomb was twice married. His first wife was the former Miss Lyda Mae Stewart, who died 33 years ago. From this union four daughters and three sons survive: Mrs. Maude L. Dawson, Greenville; Mrs. Reta L. Hood, Kirkland, Wash.; Mrs. Louise L. Melton, Bremo Bluff, Va.; and Mrs. Jessie L. Burns, Travelers Rest; Henry B. Lipscomb, Gastonia, N.C., J. Edgar Lipscomb, Greenville and Johnnie A. Lipscomb, Travelers Rest.
        His second marriage was to the former Miss Maggie Garrison, who died eight years ago.
        Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Eva L. Hudson, Greenville 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
        The body is at the home. Stilwell Mortuary is in charge.

Funeral services for James S. (Jimmy) Lipscomb, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Lipscomb of Rt. 7, Greenville, Old Parker Road, will be conducted today at 4:30 p. m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by Rev. S. P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be Frank Hawkins Jr., Steve Bryant, Archie Woo, Nathaniel Ellis, Bobby Ellis and Richard Miller.
       Honorary escort will be the Intermediate department of the Sunday School of Reedy River Baptist Church, with classmates of Hardeeville High School and Parker High School and his teachers.
       Jimmy died of cancer at a local hospital Wednesday. He became ill last October and on Oct. 26 had surgery at Hardeeville, S. C. After entering Greenville General Hospital Nov. 5, He underwent three subsequent operations. During the past six weeks, his condition had grown increasingly more critical.
       He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church and of the Intermediate Class of the Sunday School. He had been a student at Hardeeville High School at Hardeeville and Parker High School, 10th grade.
       The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.
 
Johnny A. Lipscomb
      Johnny A. Lipscomb, 55, of 209 Love Drive, Travelers Rest, died Friday.
      A son of the late James and Lida Stewart Lipscomb, he was a lifelong resident of Greenville County. He was employed by the E.T. and W.N.C. Trucking Company for 20 years. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edna Jackson Lipscomb; four sisters, Mrs. Frank (Jessie) Burns and Mrs. Reta L. Hood of Travelers Rest, Mrs. Bill (Louis) Melton of Bremo Bluff, Va., and Mrs. Maude L. Dawson of Greenville; and two brothers, Edgar Lipscomb of Hardyville (Hardeeville) and Henry Lipscomb of Gastonia, N.C.
       Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
       Pallbearers will be Charles Green, Walter A. Dill, Fred Bowers, Elbert McKinney, Leroy Reynolds and Earl Rice.
       The body is at the home. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home is in charge.

Lida S. Lipscomb
    
Mrs. Lida Stewart Lipscomb, 60, died at the family home on the Buncombe Road, in Paris Mountain township, near Reedy River Baptist Church, yesterday afternoon after a short illness.
      Mrs. Lipscomb had made her home in Greenville County her entire life, being the daughter of the late, Henry and Tempie Caroline Stewart, of this county. She was a devoted member of the Reedy River Baptist Church. Her death will be learned with deep sorrow to her many friends.
      She is survived by her husband, J. G. Lipscomb; four daughters: Mrs. J. L. Dawson, Mrs. . A. R. Hood, and Mrs. Frank Burns of Greenville County; and Mrs. W. T. Milton, of Bremo Bluff, Va.; three sons: H. B. Lipscomb, New York; J. E. Lipscomb and J. A. Lipscomb of Greenville county; three sisters: Mrs. J. B. Hawkins, Mrs. J. J. Dill and Mrs. Marvin McHugh, Greenville county. Two brothers also survive, H. E. Stewart and W. C. Stewart, Greenville, in addition to 12 grandchildren.
       Funeral services will be held from the Reedy River Baptist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be made in the church cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: C. J. Hill, John B. Burns, Sam Aiken, P. D. Hawkins, Carroll Mills and Rube Barrett.
 
Maggie D. Lipscomb
    
Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Garrison Lipscomb, 56, wife of J. G. Lipscomb of Travelers Rest. will be this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Reedy River Baptist church. The services will be conducted by Rev. S. P. Hester and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
       Active pallbearers will be Alton Batson, Coley Vaughn, Hoyt Anderson, Ralph Bowers, John Neal and T. E. Willis.
       The honorary escort will be composed of the board of deacons of Reedy River church together with the following: L. E. Brookshire, Dave Batson, Walter Dill, George Gilreath, Mr. Vaughn, J. L. Watkins, W. C. Hawkins, C. J. Hill, Clyde Hester, Douglas Coleman, Hext M. Moody, Fred Moody, John Marshbanks, Frank Marshbanks, Sr., F. A. Bull, Allen League, Dr. T. E. Coleman and Dr. Stanley Coleman.
       The death of Mrs. Lipscomb occurred suddenly at the residence at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday night. She had been in declining health for some time.
       Mrs. Lipscomb was a native of this county and member of Reedy River Baptist church and of Woodmen Circle.
        In addition to her husband she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. T. E. Pike and Mrs. R. C. Barrett of Travelers Rest and Mrs. L. A. Spake of Asheville; one brother, L. C. Eaton of Mauldin; four step-daughters, Mrs. J. L. Dawson of Greenville, Mrs. Margaret Hood of  Seattle, Wash., Mrs. T. F. Burns of Travelers Rest and Mrs. W. T. Melton of Bremo Bluff, Va.; three step-sons, H. B. Lipscomb of Gastonia and J. E. and J. A. Lipscomb of Greenville.
        Pending the hour of the service the body will remain at the residence.
 
Roy “Butch'' Lipscomb
         Sgt. E-5 ``Butch'' Lipscomb, 21, of 209 Love Drive, was killed in Vietnam Thursday during a combat operation.
         Born in Greenville County he was a son of Johnny and Edna Jackson Lipscomb of Travelers Rest. He was a graduate of Travelers Rest High School and was formerly employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company. He entered the U.S. Army in Oct., 1967 and received his basic training at Ft. Jackson. He then attended NCO school and received advanced training at Ft. Knox, Ky. For eight months he had been serving with Troop G, 211 ACR, US Army in Vietnam. He was a member of Reedy River Baptist Church.
          Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Whitfield Lipscomb; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Jackson of Ware Shoals.
          The body is being returned to Greenville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

Emma E Lowe
        Mrs. Emma E. Lowe, well known resident of this county, passed away at her home on Smythe street, near Dunean, at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning after an illness of one year's duration.
        Mrs. Lowe was 71 years of age and was a life-long resident of Greenville county, where she has numerous friends. She was the widow of the late J.F. Lowe, who preceded her to the graves by 11 years. She was a devoted member of the Dunean Methodist church.
        Surviving her are one sister, Mrs. Hattie Buck of Durham, N.C., and four nephews, W.T. Buck, of Durham, who was formerly employed by The Greenville News, of this city; George M. Buck, of Nashville, Tenn.; Arthur Buck, of Atlanta; and C.W. McKinzie of Asheville, N.C.
        Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Dunean Methodist church, Rev. C.L.Harris, of Union, officiating and assisted by her pastor, Rev. E.W. Edwards. Interment will be in Reedy River church cemetery, near Travelers Rest.
        Pallbearers will be W.C. Gilmore, J.W. Nesbit, S.F. Pressley, Ronald Donnan, Sam McDaniel and C.N. Wallace.
